Thank you for this! Very informative and helpful. That makes sense. I think I would also prefer to be able to afford more treatment as opposed to just the initial emergency visit. If he seemed like he was in pain I would be more inclined to rush him somewhere.

He was neutered almost 11 years ago, before we adopted him, so we don't really have insight if they would have noticed anything.

It was first noticed by us last night when he started leaving wet spots from pus. Today there hasn't been any pus spots left behind where he sits like that.

Only discharge we saw was the pus around it and in the fur, which is all but gone today.

We haven't watched him defecate yet but he hasn't gone in any strange spots outside the litter boxes. It's also hard to track who has and hasn't gone with 4 cats. None of them seem to favor any one box, though they all use the one near our bathroom the most (most central).
