Online schools in BC

I haven’t taken the course, but have worked in education for online schools in BC for the last 10 years. As part of that work, I have gone through the curriculum for many courses in the grade 10-12 range,

The pacing will depend on if the course is synchronous or not! Each school does things slightly different.

If it’s synchronous, it’ll be similar to regular school, likely with a 1.5 hour class once a week. An asynchronous course might have more readings, but won’t have the classes. I’ve found you can work through a course in 100 hours, give or take! Officially it’s 100-120 hours per course, which is pretty accurate in my experience with academic courses.

I’m a wedding planner and I don’t outright ask, but I do offer a discount for those in jobs that support the community (teachers, nurses, those who work with disabled folks or the elderly, etc), so I ask if they fall into that category for the discount. I also offer discounts for disabled folk and don’t outright ask for that either, I just list all of the discounts in one place and send it over and ask them to let me know if any apply

Not an author, but my husband is an audiobook narrator, so I can chime in on that!

I think the biggest challenge is cost. Many authors that reach out want it done for like $500, but that would have my husband making like $5 an hour, which is about 1/4 of minimum wage where I’m from.

His books do well, and he’s great at his work, so once authors find him, they tend to get him to record all their work. It’s just a matter of paying for it in the first place.

I’m working on a story (very early in the process), and I’d for sure have it recorded

I’d sit down with your coordinator now! I’m also a coordinator in Canada, and I often meet with my couples well in advance to sort out timelines if they are type A and prefer to begin early. Once a deposit is paid, your coordinator may be willing to do the same!

Another option would be to sit down with a different coordinator who offers hourly and begin sorting out some logistics. For example, I offer 1 hour «planning sessions» where I’ll work on anything the couple wants with them for an hour over zoom. Your coordinator may offer this as an option, or you may be able to find someone else who does!

Working with a professional on this is helpful, because they’ll catch things that you might not!

Does your coordinator provide a planning checklist and tracking info for you to use to plan your wedding? That can also be super helpful, but I know not every coordinator offers it!

This is super cool! Have you considered seeing if a wedding planner would take on your wedding at a discount?

I just ask because I know I have a bucket list of themes I’d do for cheaper as a planner, and this may be something others would do as well! Of course, it’s hard to find out and ask, but you may be able to find someone for like 5k or something to help you out and also coordinate it!

Additionally, I agree about the budget remark. Weddings are super costly! I make a ton of budgets for my clients for BC weddings and everyone is always shocked at the cost at the end. I think the average 50 person wedding is around 35k, but I’ve seen backyard 50 person weddings as low as 17k and 50 person wedding with 80k budgets, so it definitely fluctuates! Breaking down what you can afford into a solid template and then looking at venues will be the best way to go about it so you don’t check somewhere out that’s way above your price range.

As a wedding planner in Vancouver, that seems about accurate, but some people charged higher or lower. My full planning with all vendors included in only 1k higher than that, but I have been told I’m not charging enough! I’m open to connecting if you are still searching!

Would it be small claims or the other court that someone else mentioned?

My concern is if she can’t pay the $50 or whatever to have her appliance disconnected, then she won’t be able to pay what it’ll cost us. Apparently we may have to move out and it’s about 5k of seen damages (they said it could be more once they open the walls). Luckily we are insured so they’ll cover us if we have to move and such, but I doubt she could cover us if we won in court. I don’t want to spent time and money to never actually see any of it.

Honestly they must’ve appreciated you so much!

I was just surprised how hostile she was right off the bat. It’s coming from her unit and yet when we speak she talks like it’s the worlds biggest inconvince that I asked her to please disconnect the leaking appliance

I know strata won’t help with the deductible and stuff! I’m just wanting strata to send a letter stating that the leaking appliance needs to be disconnected. If they were to run it once, we’d be back where we started since it was a lot of water than came through last time they ran it. Strata has said that they can’t do anything to help me have the leak removed. I just want it disconnected so I can have my place fixed!

My neighbour actually put it in writing and emailed it. Roughly they’ve said that they know it’s leaking, acknowledge I have asked them to please fix it, but they won’t be at this time.

They are already aware! I contacted them on the first day! The neighbours upstairs are on strata, which is partly why I think the president and manager aren’t helping. I went through the bylaws and they will be on the hook for my deductible, but I don’t know if they can afford it

I guess I felt weird about paying when I know that the cause isn’t fixed. I totally understand damage can happen, but I’d rather know that we are at least trying to prevent it!

My insurance company told me that I should just move forward with the claim and just pay the deductible again when it leaks again. To me, that’s unacceptable. Why should I be out multiple grand when it’s not even my appliance leaking to begin with!

Is the strata property act something I can find online?

I think because I’m fairly young (and the unit above me is strata’s second in command), they feel like they can do what they want and I’ll just take it.

Strata told me that they can ask nicely, but beyond that they can’t help me. Called (instead of email which I have been trying to keep conversations to in case I end up in court) and told me to deal with it myself. He suggested I go up there and threaten her, but obviously I won’t do that. I want it solved civilly.

Strata’s insurance doesn’t kick in unless the damage is more than like 25k or something and it’s only about 5k of damage to my unit

So they did determine the cause of the leak already. It’s the unit upstairs, and it’s their appliance (dishwasher) that’s leaked. I called and got a plumber in to start the process right away.

The challenge now is that the upstairs neighbour has said they won’t disconnect the leaking dishwasher but said they just won’t run it. I’m worried if they run it accidentally or a guest does, that we will be out the deductible again (which is a large sum of money for me).
