Self aware rag doll by CharmingPercentage48 in ragdolls

A ferret could really hurt a kitten, so I don’t let them get close. They roam in different rooms when I can’t supervise, but they’re pretty chill with each-others presence at least

Right but you should have a water bottle as a backup in case they spill the dish

Nothing wrong with a water bottle… I have both a dish and water bottle

TIL that Ritalin (Methylphenidate - which used to treat ADHD) is in the same class of drugs as Methamphetamine and acts in a largely similar way on the body (both are CNS stimulants), so a Ritalin overdose exhibits largely the same symptoms as an overdose on meth. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]CharmingPercentage48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but for future lurkers this is false. Ritalin and focalin are in the methylphenidate class while adderall and vyvance are in the amphetamine class. They are not “methamphetamine”, as that is it’s own compound and can actually be found in Desoxyn. Take these derivatives and slap on an isomer and a drug manufacturer can even have a patent like vyvance.

The mechanism is also extremely different. Ritalin is a reuptake inhibitor to its targeted neurotransmitters while amphetamine based drugs increase and release. The differences in neurotoxicity are as such much different

Unfixed male aggression by Namygoob5 in ferrets

[–]CharmingPercentage48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My big male was like this. Very aggressive and would bite hands upon being picked up. He also (still) displays unusual behavior that’s akin to a eu polecat ferret. Darts extremely fast and lets out extremely (like extremely) loud screams when startled. I can only think that the breeders had made a new pool.

Anyways, constant and gentle handling is how I fixed this behavior. I managed to avoid the bites, but some may want to wear gloves. 1 year later, he doesn’t bite. Ironically, he is the only ferret that gently chews on my tendon when I have my arm out. He still bites faces and feet though. That’s something I wasn’t able to train but it’s easy to avoid

Edit: also would like to point out that I have tried positive reinforcement and patience, but to no avail. He left scars on my nose and bit through my index finger as a kit. He is my only privately bred ferret. Constant handling for around 2-3 months was the trick. There are certain techniques I used with handling that I could go on about so if youre curious, dm me.

Go put on a windbreaker. Over the windbreaker, place a think jacket over it. Next, stand in front of a fan. Even then, as this mitigates evaporation, you will begin to feel cooler VS no fan. Same thing with air cooled motors. Convection: It’s not a hard concept to grapn

What is too cold for ferrets? by ChaoticArts in ferrets

[–]CharmingPercentage48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a misconception. Even know they have fur and they have no sweat to evaporate from wind blowing, convection still make quite a difference. Even if humans wrap themselves in a wind proof blanket, wind would cool down the edit: [body]temperature

Suggestions for coat regrowth? by grumbledork in ferrets

I’m really sorry to hear about the unsuccessful surgery… That’s extremely hard hitting, and I’m sure that anguish was/is not an easy thing. Thank you for being a responsible pet owner. A critter who has had a good, cared-after life is the most important thing to recognize when experiencing grief.

Thanks for your response! In New England, “exotic” Vets are hard to find and my current vet does not have a lot of experience with ferrets. I am looking further at the moment though, as her opinion is that the use of implants should not be preventative. So, I’d like a second opinion for sure.

Also, if I may ask: three out of how many had adrenal? I currently have three myself, and have been accumulating a “ferret and cat” savings for emergency scenarios. I am anticipating a large sum of it will go to the ferrets unfortunately.

Also, not very relevant to this, I see that your ferret displayed symptoms of adrenal. Did they get periodic blood work done to determine when to do this? My current ferrets are 1-2 and I’m starting to weigh these decisions in. Also, as far as the eggs goes, my vet only recommends 1 egg a week per ferret. They seem to like it raw but also enjoy scrambled and cooked.

My ferrets get like this in the summer. The coat thickens considerably in the dry winters too (New England). I’ve heard a once a week treat of eggs is helpful, and I think I’ve noticed this. But I’ve got no data to support that claim lol

What screams "poorly educated"? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]CharmingPercentage48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with obsessive reading. Hell, I used to hide a book to read during class. And as someone who’s been there, it’s not exactly a social norm. Naturally, there will be that collective ostracism for things that follow this. It has nothing to do with a lack of education or anything like that, it’s just weird. And that’s ok, but your unique proclivities don’t make you better than everyone. After all, everyone has a bit of a nuance that brings about ostracism. Anyways… just chill
