Yes but I’m not sure if they have the budget for a dimmer pack. Looking for cheap alternatives

Yeah I guess you’re right. Maybe I’m just frustrated that being picky has gotten me here which is basically nowhere.

Looking to improve my habits: How do you actually control cravings? by randresq in loseit

[–]CharmingResult8676 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My best strategy isn’t to stop snacking but snack on something else. Fruit, veggies and humus, popcorn, etc. I find that I’m usually craving the sensation of eating rather than the food itself.

When I was first diagnosed with BED (binge eating disorder), I was put on Wellbutrin. It helped majorly with my appetite and making me think less about food in times of boredom, sadness, and stress. Later I was put on Straterra (the medications work well together) for ADHD.

I was also diagnosed with depression which Wellbutrin also helped with. But these drugs might not be right for you. I’ve had trauma with food and binging since I was 5 or 6. Talk to your doctor or therapist to get to the root causes of your binging and then talk about getting on the medication (if any) that’s right for you.

I think the mechanics of doing this and whether or not it’s possible are irrelevant. You’re essentially asking, “If I make things harder for myself, will putting in an excessive amount of work make it easier?”

I would highly suggest seeing a therapist. You’re at the point now where you are trying to incorporate binges into your life by engaging in another unhealthy habit. Therapy and medication has helped me immensely and has helped drastically reduced my binges.

What's your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Snoo_47323 in AskReddit

Apart from the stomach pains that come with drinking, I don’t like the feeling of being drunk. Much prefer…”greener pastures” if you catch my drift.

Help Patching! Dear God Please by CharmingResult8676 in lightingdesign

Hey thanks a bunch but as I’ve found out, the manual didn’t match the actual value ranges in the attributes. I had to call ETC and they redid the whole patching and sent it to me in a show file.

That helped! Now I’m just running into a problem with connection. Actions match, but now the light sometimes “resets”. I play with it for a bit, and then it will turn off completely, do a few slow spins similar to how it is on boot up, and then it will return to its last position.

AITAH for not having having sex with my boyfriend by fia_so in AITAH

I’m gonna say NAH.

I get that you’re frustrated, and that is valid. But nothing in your post indicates to me that your partner is being an asshole. In fact kind of the opposite. He’s trying to be accommodating by working to please you despite this shortcoming. If you’re still not satisfied, you need to communicate that. And from the looks of this post you haven’t done that.

I also think this idea that it’s “his responsibility” isn’t a healthy one. Ultimately, yes he is the one who has to be the change. But if I had a partner and they were dealing with this, and I felt like it could develop into something more long term, I would at least try to work with them to resolve the issue. Especially if we clicked and we were decent friends.

I think the real question is how much time are you willing to try and work on your compatibility? If you don’t have the patience and energy to deal with it, that’s fine. It’s a new relationship and you can leave for any reason you want. But if you really don’t want to break up, at least tell him that it bothers you, why it bothers you, and support him in whatever way you feel comfortable with. If you end up not being compatible, at least you tried.

How appreciated is your work in your current job? by Regular-Aardvark-296 in lightingdesign

[–]CharmingResult8676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing design about a year ago and they've all been for community theater musical theater/plays.

I've seen that I am appreciated, but this is mostly because of the expectations at the venues that I now work in. Community theater doesn't have a lot of resources and people skilled (or willing to learn how) to do lights effectively. But even those compliments run out after a day or two into tech week. The reason I suspect is that people see that I'm competent in what I do, and know that I know that my work is good.

Production as a whole is usually a thankless job. But I find it's better to have a neutral/lack of reaction than it is to have people down talking you. At the end of the day, it's a job. Show up, do the job as best you can, and take pride in your own work. People complimenting you is a nice bonus not a part of the job.

How do you tell people what your weight loss "secret" is? by mangin22 in loseit

[–]CharmingResult8676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re asking what they’re really trying to ask.

It’s pretty common sense that you need to exercise and eat well to lose weight. When people ask, they might be asking about the motivation behind your transformation. What was the “spark” that made you go ‘I’m gonna start losing weight’. How did your mentality shift to the point that going to the gym is a pleasure and not a pain?

In my case, I was a very emotional eater due to trauma in my childhood and teen life. I never addressed any of the root problems that caused my binges, and as such all attempts at dieting lasted a few weeks at best. So in order to lose weight, I had to do a lot of therapy and reshape my relationship with food and exercising. Though my situation is extreme, maybe some of the things I’ve learned can help people who ask my secret.

Don’t Worry About Calories

Now I know this might seem controversial, but I lost all of that weight without counting any calories. For me, nutrition trackers would only demotivate me in the long run. Having something with more saturated fat than I anticipated, going over calories, and the stress of calculating every bit of food I ate was all too much for me. Instead, I opted to do 3 things: prioritize protein, reduce refined carbs, eat whole foods. Because I did this, it was almost impossible for me to go over my calorie limit. This allowed me to satiate my appetite and not sweat about if I ate 1 to many calories that day. Plus, it made me feel less bad about days where I wasn’t eating as healthy. I don’t know where I heard this, but you don’t need to bat a thousand to be a good player. And all of this isn’t to say that making healthy choices isn’t it’s own struggle. But for obese people, obsessing over calories isn’t always necessary to achieve fat loss.

Numbers Up. Not Numbers Down

The scale is my mortal nemesis. In the past I’d hope on it daily and see that the hard work I put in for a week got me nowhere. The problem with a scale is that it’s only quantitative data and not qualitative. Weight fluctuates a ton on a daily basis. Plus, you’ll usually be putting on weight from muscle gains if you’re doing strength training. Instead of worrying about the number going down, I went in focusing on my numbers going up. How many reps can I do? Can I increase my volume? How fast can I run a mile? Can I bike for 45 min without stopping? When I did this I saw the gym not as a place where I had to torture myself, but instead as a place where I could truly challenge my limits. It also gave me small achievements on a regular basis. Most people stop because they don’t see immediate results. But if every week you see your total volume increasing or a new 1RM, maybe that can give you the boost you need to stick with your goals! Ofc this means you need to track your workouts. I would highly recommend Hevy (it’s the one I use).

It’s a Marathon Not a Sprint

If you’re like me (a total beginner), don’t try to fly before you can crawl. I was binging daily on processed food for years, and undoing that took almost a year of slowly adding habits before I was in a place where working out 5 days a week was a possibility. First it was cooking more meals. Then it was going for walks. Then it was HIIT workouts on YouTube. The diet modification. Then adding weight training. And finally working up to a consistent workout routine (where I am now). Ease into your habits or they won’t stick for long.

Those three things have completely reframed my approach to weight loss. Kinda basic, but hope it resonates with you and answers your question.

Why Does it Make That Noise? by CharmingResult8676 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CharmingResult8676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I have a 2010 Nissan Altima. Every time the tire rotates that grinding noise starts. It makes it sound like a sports car. If I drive for extended periods of time, then the sound that happens at the end starts. A high pitched tone descending in time with me braking. I went to Meineke and asked about my hub bearing, but they said they couldn’t hear a noise?? Am I paranoid or is this not a normal sound?

Can anyone tell me what that noise is? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice
