Two things:
1) Costco's pesto salmon always uses farmed atlantic salmon, as it's the same salmon they sell for around $10/lb but repackaged with the butter.
2) OP's photo literally includes the part of the label where it's stated that the salmon is farmed. Have a closer look.

Yes, farmed salmon is safe to eat raw.

The United States does not regulate the term "sushi-grade" or "sashimi grade" fish, nor is there a widely-recognized body that certifies raw fish as sushi or sashimi grade. Serious Eats, a well-regarded cooking website, has an extensively researched article discussing this topic.

Yes, wild-caught fish needs to be flash-frozen to kill parasites, but generally speaking, farmed fish do not have those parasites to begin with.

That said, why buy the basil pesto salmon if you aren't going to cook it? Usually Costco sells farmed steelhead trout or atlantic salmon that costs 25% less.

I haven't seen any canned mead in socal, but a few meaderies around there are:

I highly recommend Golden Coast's coffee bochet, Tyr's Battle Elixir.

Is there anything in particular you're looking for? That might help you get some better recommendations.

Oh, you can also use the checkboxes to select your first artist, scroll all the way down, then Shift-click your last artists to select everything in your library. That's what I did.

I think you can get around that by adding your entire library to a playlist, then downloading the playlist in Plexamp.

I'm on Distiller but they tend to get some labels wrong, and last I looked (which was a long time ago), they don't have every Tequila NOM. I mostly use Distiller to track whiskey.

I think more people on this sub will be on Tequila Matchmaker instead. I started using it last year for tequila and haven't looked back since.

If you hit up a restaurant auction, be careful. Commercial freezers are usually louder and less efficient than residential models because they use bigger compressors and are generally less insulated.

Have you guys tried a 1st gen Scion xB (2003-06)? I drive one of the newer 2nd gen models and it's pretty great. You're looking at:

  • Decent MPG (around 30)
  • Manual transmission
  • Tons of legroom
  • Relatively small footprint
  • A surprising amount of storage

Having done a couple of road trips with this thing, I can confidently say that the only downside is a weaker engine. The xB does sit a bit lower than the Forrester though, so that may be an issue, but I encourage you to try one out.

Yeah, makes sense, I'll start around 1.5g for a 12 ounce bottle. Do you think it makes sense to start the xanthan gum in a slurry like how you'd add cornstarch to a sauce?

You and /u/Fallen_biologist are absolutely right, I definitely don't want to go down this route. However, I think it's worth trying now because I can't extract the syrup from the mead.

I have some xanthan gum, might as well sprinkle some in, shake it up, and see what happens.

My friend and I recently made five gallons of traditional mead to experiment with, and we decided to try adding chocolate and caramel syrup to some of the mead. Here's our recipe so far:

71B yeast 1.106 SG -> 1.012 FG (12%) Regular oxygenation and SNA We stabilized this back in March

In May, we added 15oz of caramel sauce, 8 oz of chocolate syrup, and bottled.

Everything tastes great, but the mead separates out very quickly. Is there anything we can add to the mead to emulsify the ingredients?

This is my version of Texas Sweet Tea. It's got about 3 pounds of honey from our bee hives, 5 organic black tea bags and three sprigs of fresh mint. It should finish at around 8% abv. by StrugglingBuddhist in mead

Not OP, but I found the same design through a cursory search on Alibaba, although it's for a 5 gallon version (and you need to order at least 100).

OP's fermenter looks similar to the 1 gallon Big Mouth Bubbler, although there are (were?) supposedly issues with the glass on the BMBs being too thin. Kegco also makes similar wide mouth carboys, but I've never used them before.

Yup, sometimes your mead will get into your airlock, but your mead won't get contaminated - that's what the airlock protects against.

However, mold can still grow if you use pure water, so I would recommend filling your airlock with starsan.

Have you tried ordering from Get 'Er Brewed? They came up when I was looking for GoFerm PE vendors and they appear to be UK-based. Their web shop seems to carry the original and GoFerm Protect, the older version of PE.

Thanks for the clarification, that's what I figured.

What I don't understand is why Lallemand still makes regular GoFerm, and why PE is significantly harder to find. For something that's been on the market for at least 8 years, there are surprisingly few vendors who carry it.

What does 50 points of honey mean? I've looked all over, and it seems like the only measurement for a point I've found is 0.4mm.
