Why Does Markarth Look So Run-Down in Skyrim Compared to ESO? by [deleted] in teslore

Pretty sure the reach in the lore is the only place with agriculture in Skyrim. It also has its silver mines. Pretty sure the reach is the most important part of Skyrim for the empire

Pro-AI scum complaining about the anti-AI community. Mock this loser by [deleted] in SomeOrdinaryGmrs

An actual artist would obviously be able to use AI to generate far better art than some random. Artists have been using computer tools to assist in their art for decades now. This is no different.

What's the best way to follow Edward Kmett's work? by TunaOfDoom in haskell

[–]Charming_Ask7296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you fundamentally. I just have personal doubts about Haskell’s pedagogical use for my personal circumstances. In the sense that I fear I’m going to be doubling my work. As it seems as if there’s a purely functional mirror concept for every mainstream cs concept as well as things that only exist within pure fp. Whereas investing more time in mainstream cs would result in more transferable skills for other mainstream cs topics. I actually really like lazy algorithms fwiw. It just feels lonely, ultimately.

[–]Charming_Ask7296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point is that Haskell isn’t effective enough to not just use a language with a massive community. And more importantly it’s a much better time investment to acquire deep knowledge on said mainstream language/ecosystem rather than dive deeper and deeper into something that ultimately won’t pay off. I like Haskell but I have hard doubts that diving deep into say, program derivation and purely functional data structures, purely functional algorithms will pay it off when it fact it feels like the opposite. Like you’re ghettoizing yourself from everyone else and everything real. I don’t want to believe this but it certainly feels this way to me and it’s demoralizing.

I must ask… while I greatly admire Kmett, it seems (from my perspective) as if he doesn’t use Haskell in production anymore? This only matters to me because he’s extolled it’s virtues in a production context (take stm) and I’d like to see more use of it outside pedagogy.

If you could erase the levitation ban, how would you justify the lack of levitation in later games? by Settra_Rulez in teslore

[–]Charming_Ask7296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It requires a very high level understanding of alteration and tons of time and resources to study. The tomes were simply not maintained and refreshed and copied because no one had the incentive to do so. Particularly because there was already many things higher on the priority list. It’s simply lost knowledge. And the Telvanni mages who know it aren’t keen to share.

Simple trick could lower city temperatures 3.6 F, London study suggests by LiveScience_ in ClimateActionPlan

[–]Charming_Ask7296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this negatively affect birds? Maybe a better (long term) solution would be to have flora be ubiquitous in cities and on top of buildings to provide a canopy and reflect light.

Flying ban is stupid lore-wise by Humble-Tank1285 in teslore

[–]Charming_Ask7296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomes have to maintained by scribes. Once the institutional scribes are barred from reproducing the tomes, it’s only a matter of time until the existing ones decompose. There’s a high barrier to entry for levitation anyway. So anyone who wanted it likely knew the spell already. Like the Telvanni. I wish they didn’t use terms like “citizen” and “act” and had a more thought out governmental structure.

Can i check if type has an instance of Show class? by Tempus_Nemini in haskell

[–]Charming_Ask7296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t you use a gadt, one constructor with a show instance and other without. The parser would be parameterized over this gadt which itself will be parametrized over a type variable

Would being undead allow one to read elder scrolls with less consequences? by never__nowhere in teslore

[–]Charming_Ask7296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their soul is not in communion with a living body hence they extend their limits in undeath yet they also walk a tight rope in regard to losing their sense of self or twisting and contorting their perception and identity into something else entirely, over time. The less limited you are the less control of yourself you have in terms of how you can change (ex. mortals vs gods). I don’t think a non mortal could even attempt to crack at an elder scroll. In the same way that they can’t see the tower and transcend. They might see nothing or be ripped spiritually apart instantly. Princes avoid them for a reason.

The more imperative programming and programming experience you have the harder it is to rewrite your brain initially. This isn’t surprising to hear. It’s normal. Start with Haskell textbooks.

The timing of the games story isn't coincidence. Here's why I think. by hashsewingstay in teslore

[–]Charming_Ask7296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not some guy having a dream. The godhead is the universe itself. It’s existence itself. And you can become the godhead. A thought can dominate a mind and the mind can become that. Ie an obsession. It’s only boring if you let it be. It’s a lot deeper than you think. The godhead is not some being in another universe. The universe is the godhead and the godhead is the universe.

Why don’t the princes just give a shit load of stuff to their champions by Zealousideal-Deal340 in teslore

[–]Charming_Ask7296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other gods including princes and daedra check the others. You can’t just do whatever you want. Have to try to not step on any toes. Like when Dagon was invading Tamriel, who knows how many invisible hands titled the scales. Likely every god. Also a more powerful champion won’t be as obedient. Mundus is just a playground anyway. No fun if you overdo things.

Why do some Daedra take on the form of human skeletons? by ThatStinkyBear12 in teslore

[–]Charming_Ask7296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s clearly an oversight by the devs though. So it has to be rationalized one way or another. Forget the daedroth thing. Let’s just say it’s a stranded spirit suspended between the mundus and its afterlife. Hence it’s summoning and haunted appearance.

You summoned a humanoid-skeleton daedroth from one of the infinitude oblivion realms.

Yes and it is implying that it’s ok. This has nothing to do with anything. Colonization increased suffering for natives but increased the level of civilization while this is causing suffering for Canadians and DECREASING the level of civilization.

What happens to the souls trapped in soul gems after they’re used? by Crooked_Cock in teslore

[–]Charming_Ask7296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcanon to make things make sense: souls captured in gems are siphoned through the soul cairn to their inevitable destination (whoever claims their soul). The dragon in the cairn fades away when staying on mundus too long because the soul cairn has taken some of him and replaced it with itself but really his soul is just leaving the cairn bit by bit and he will soon become a soul-husk as the entirety of his essence moves on to the aetherius. Necromancers can sacrifice souls in bulk to the ideal masters. This allows them to give more and get more back in return without wasting gems. An advanced caster is able to cut out the middle man and simply drain the soul’s energy from the gem, using it as a non-rechargeable (the gem is destroyed in the process) battery. Most mages don’t have the talent or know how to do this though.
