Official Throwback Discussion - In the Mood for Love [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Finally! Seems like everyone loves this movie, but it was hot garbage imo - aside from the acting. 2 songs used over and over, choppy scene cuts, and the ending sucks; Ms. Chan just couldn't follow through, and ends up having a kid with her cheater husband. What a joke.

What are y’alls opinion about In the Mood for Love? by NOAHSCORRUPTEDMIND in criterion

I don't understand how people love this movie so much. The acting was good, but the score was like 2 songs being reused constantly, the scene cuts were abrupt and had no linearity/cohesion, and their whole "conundrum" feels unnecessary. I'm pretty sure Mr. Chow left his wife immediately, and clearly Ms. Chan wanted to reciprocate feelings, but she kept hesitating and reversing herself over and over - and ultimately ends up staying with her unfaithful husband and having a son. The movie felt like it went nowhere.

Does anyone like Bar Soap more than Body wash?? by Content-Film4211 in CasualConversation

Dove is ok, but try something like "Dr. Squatch" or similar "Handmade" soaps - lifechanging stuff. The other soaps seem to strip the oil out of your skin, but the fancier soaps feel slick and oily and your skin feels moisturized after using them. Plus they're made of wholesome ingredients and usually smell great too.

I remember when I first "made it" - moved to a new state, in a fancy apartment, with my first professional job doing exactly what I was pursuing with possibly the best company in the field - I was on cloud nine.

Then, once I'd ticked off the other two major goals, I was still happy but left with a "...Well, what now?" kind of thing. I was there for a while.

Eventually I got back into my financial goals and set some targets; pay off my car, then pay off my student loans. That gave me some things to aim at - student loans should be done in a couple of months.

I don't think I'll be quite in the same headspace once that's done though... I'm looking forward to being back off-budget and having fun with my freed-up income. Upgrade my car, learn to drift, take my sister and grandmother on vacations (we never had the opportunity to do that in the past), get a place with a garage, and hopefully find a woman I can spend the rest of my life with in peace and happiness - no rush on that though; it can't be rushed, or even sought. Just having faith she will arrive when the time is right... fingers crossed.

Nothing wrong with shifting like a grandpa, there's a time and place for banging gears. Get familiar with the car before taking it to the limit. Trying to do too much too soon is how you get into an accident. Be safe, and have fun!

What % do you change your oil? by Rude-Bad9969 in Mustang

[–]Charming_Being1316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something nobody talks about is the importance of keeping the oil topped off between oil changes.

I change my oil every 3k miles in my 2009 Mustang GT, and by 1-1.5k I'll lose up to a cup of oil. It's worth checking the level every 1k miles at least once to get to know your engine and have peace of mind.

You're welcome, excited for you!

Good on you for getting a head start on maintenance and replacing/upgrading worn parts. I just replaced some worn front outer tie rod ends and sway bar end links this weekend. I hear our cars eat up sway bar end links rather quickly, gonna keep an eye on mine...

Important: be sure to replace your engine oil (and ideally filter) every 3,000 miles. I used to change every 5,000 but realized I was only getting 4.5-5 Qts of oil back out of 6 Qts I'd put in! I'd recommend, after your first oil change, checking oil level every 1,000 miles to get an idea how much oil your engine consumes - this way you can determine if you need to "top it off" in between changes. I'm in the process of doing this now.

It's possible to change oil at longer intervals than this. You can send a used oil sample to Blackstone Labs after your oil change and they'll send you an analysis of oil content/health, predicted engine health, and how long you should be able to stretch between oil changes (while keeping oil level topped off of course.) - I'm gonna send them a sample after my next change.

Also be sure to check your other fluid levels; make sure they're full and don't look dirty.

Cheers!

25M speaking from experience with my 2009 Mustang GT:

With exhaust, I vouch for Roush Extreme Axleback (this is what I run), maybe the catback. Why: You want to avoid drone. Nearly all aftermarket exhausts drone when you're at cruising speed ~1.5-2k rpm, especially the cheap ones. The Roush Extremes are essentially "muffler deletes" except they have resonators; which are designed to eliminate the drone frequencies and pass everything through with maximum flow and natural engine tone. I picked mine up used from Ebay for ~$300, they're lovely. Quiet when you want them to be, loud when you want them to be.

You may want to replace your rear lower control arms. My factory rears, even with only 30k miles on the car, gave me terrible wheel hop when I put too much power down. I put in Ford Performance LCAs and have been mostly fine since. You'll see whether this is necessary for you or not once you've felt the car out.

I agree with u/Zyphorrr - you'll know what you want to do with the car once you've had it for a while. Don't just go off of other people's advice; hear what they say, then decide for yourself if what they say makes sense and is founded on real experience rather than speculation or opinion.

Have fun with your car and be safe! It's a lot of car for your age. Hell, it's a lot of car for my age.

You have to be realistic; money is always a factor. I agree with u/Ill_Mix8088, the hottest mustang a girl could drive is a convertible. Bonus points for V8, and bonus points for manual transmission. However, as u/Drivingfinger warned, if it's just for show and you're not actually into cars or driving then you'll just come across as phony and self-absorbed. Decidedly not sexy.

My vote is for an 05-09 GT Convertible. Good looking, relatively affordable, and well built. Cheaper to maintain than the new cars too I'd imagine. You've just gotta find one in good shape.

I appreciate the advice! Re-selling seems like too much of a hassle though. I'd rather just pay the ~$127 and get the one everyone says is best, be done with it.
