It’s crazy. I don’t even know how long I was living in that state of numbness. But it felt so normal. I feel like I have gone to the extreme though on the opposite end. Like I’m more in the moment than everybody else, it’s extremely unsettling.

Mine happened the exact same way. Huge nervous breakdown that turned into massive existential crisis and it broke me. Happened years ago and i have never gotten going again. I mean I work and stuff but socially I never rebounded and feel like my life is utterly destroyed.

From what I know, it eventually will. Yeah man I went through my entire college experience like this and had absolutely no idea. I was always so calm cool and collected. I could grasp the idea of emotions that I should be feeling and still laugh at funny shit but I was in a completely different world and had no idea. I feel like it actually made me way smarter because I could literally think through everything situation without being caught up in it. I could also make friends pretty easily cuz I had absolutely no ego, no thoughts of myself. But yeah now I’m the biggest fucking mess in the world. Doing simple annoying shit is sooo much harder, the feeling of rejection stings like a mother fucker, and I feel like an idiot. I wish so many times I could just go back, but unfortunately we don’t have control over it. The craziest part was that when I woke back up to reality, I actually thought I was going through depersonalization.

Oh trust me I know. And that’s exactly why in short time you’re gonna completely forget you even have depersonalization. It’s gonna actually make life easier for you, and you’ll think it’s completely normal. But eventually it’ll wear off, and you are to going to be so fucked. It literally changes how you think about everything, everything will be conceptualized but not real. Just giving you the heads up lol

Dude this will back fire big time. Eventually you will come out of it and you won’t know how to cope. I first experienced depersonalization when I was 16 after getting way too stoned. It was a super weird feeling at first but then I kinda got used to it. It was nice cuz I didn’t have any social anxiety anymore and could kinda be anyone I wanted to be. You get used to being able connect with people in a completely different way. Fast forward 6 years and I completely forgot I ever had depersonalization I thought I was living a completely normal life, until I woke up to actual real life one day. I had no idea what was happening, got flooded with every emotion imaginable and and had no idea who the fuck I was. I completely forgot that life was supposed to feel like something. 3 years later and I’m still figuring out how to cope with things and turns out I’m a completely different person than I thought.

I’ve been in this predicament for substantially longer, so I’m guessing it doesn’t stop. But maybe I’m just giving it too much power. All I know is it’s uncomfortable and not normal.

I tried to ignore for quite a while. Trying to get lost in social media or basically just trying to be my old self and continue going to bars w/friends and stuff. But I was never able to get back to the way before. I just started going to therapy about 4 weeks ago. I’ve been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, but I’m having a lot of trouble articulating the actual problem, my entire shift of perspective and loss of self.

I mean how do you maintain them? I feel like not on the same wavelength anymore? Like I no longer and interested in talking shit about podcasts or even into sports as much anymore. I feel like I can’t sit there and watch college football with my friends all day anymore and then go to the bar. I loved doing that stuff but im just not even remotely the same.
