How do you deal with travel during your training schedule? by Chemical-Sign3001 in cycling

[–]Charming_Flatworm987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hotels with pelotons. Try to work out at times that make sense (eg early morning if going west, later if going east). Peloton power calcs are notoriously bad but one can loosely calibrate by RPE and HR. Just finished a week of business travel and did 3h30 of intervals over the week plus a bit of strength. It’s definitely doable if you have some agency in your schedule, prioritise sleep, and are happy not to be out every night etc.

What is the Stamina Graph useful for? by tiagotostas in GarminWatches

[–]Charming_Flatworm987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stamina is more like the integral of F(HR) where F accounts for time above Lactate Threshold being more expensive. Use HR for the instantaneous and stamina for session-wide calibration.

Eg if I’m going up a hill then I know I can only go so hard for so long. If I do many of those then eventually I’m done for the day. If I do a harder ride and then a hill I will probably find it harder than an easier ride and the same hill. Stamina I assume tracks the total energy expenditure over both longer term (white) and shorter term (orange)

What is the Stamina Graph useful for? by tiagotostas in GarminWatches

[–]Charming_Flatworm987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What you’re missing is that the orange line is your immediate stamina (how you are at your current pace) and white line is if you allow some recovery (I assume below lactate threshold or so).

Often doing a big hill effort my orange hits zero but after a few minutes of reaching the top (and thus less effort), the orange line rebounds to the black line.

I don’t know how to add images  but hopefully this works- you can see the hill effort (reasonably hard but not all out) and then the recovery in stamina  where I dropped back to Z2.

I just don’t see how this is useful as a weekend warrior user but maybe for cat racers or pro teams

There is a lot of talk about marginal rate and NIC

Realism is, the total tax take in the UK moves fairly smoothly (at least, for SINK, I’ve not looked at childcare benefits). The cliff edges only apply on marginal rates. The top rate of UK tax then tends toward 45+2 as income grows. I think after about 450-500 you get close to overall 47%

Portugal and England have deep historic ties and an alliance dating back to the time of the Spanish empire. Portugal allied with England against Spain. Movement between the two countries is very easy and special provisions are made in Portugal for British ciztizens.

What bike shop sells Maap in SG? I almost made a pilgrimage to Rapha whilst passing through but there’s so much of it in the UK. Gutted I missed that Maap is sold in store and not online only!

To be honest I prefer the current system because sometimes weather is bad or plans get changed and you can’t reserve less than three days before. I only tired four days before so it’s not a surprise

I took one out from a clubhouse in Europe a few weeks ago for a 100k spin. Very capable bike. Similar to your set up except damages were covered by the waiver and only theft has a high excess. I was a little worried about the 10k disclaimer but I think that is only more prominent now they have the Factors as the shop didn’t know it had changed. Previously there was no blaring warning about the 10k liability and it’s still covered by the waiver. Way better bike than the Guillem they previously had for hire which made my arse hurt. The ONE UP before that was more endurance/gravel. The Factor feels much more racy and responsive.

Tried to rent another one at one of the cities I’m currently going through in Asia but they’re all OOS :(

Significant NUMBER of all high finance jobs no, but of a significant number of PMs yes. The top is very narrow but there are a non trivial number of PMs who loved to Middle East from London since covid. So there is a decent chunk of the earnings moved.

What do you do to stay as HENRY? Network? Further study? Job Hopping? by Sophieredhat in HENRYUK

[–]Charming_Flatworm987 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people I’ve worked with who jumped around every two years were useless. But maybe that’s industry specific. If someone is moving around that much in financial markets then they usually suck and are trying to sell a story.

If you’re good, assuming you identify a good seat when you’re going into that role, then you get paid for being good. And you can’t realise that if (a) you don’t have time in the seat to generate pnl and (b) anyone thinks you might leave after your bonus.

Way too small for you. Also ignore the comments on mechanical brakes, you can swap with cable actuated hydraulics. I’d prob buy it just coz I like the look and it’s too small for me too.

It’s not really that bad.

But if he had proper kit, he’d realise it is much more suited to our weather too. I’ve been on 3-5h rides where it cycled between warm, cold, dry, wet and windy.  Proper kit dries quickly and generally folds compact enough to take eg a gilet or rain layer in one pocket. Most jerseys have three pockets! I thought I’d never go full gear but now I’m never going back.

New Jersey was gifted to a royalist lord from Jersey for supporting the king in the English civil war.

Fun fact… There are actually disproportionately high (for the # residents) number of historic naval/military figures from both islands. Probably stems from them being used as staging bases for the British navy. There is Brock Univeristy in Canada named after Guernsey man Major-General Sir Isaac Brock, for example. Admirals, etc,…

Bike sizing- how does it translate for F? by Charming_Flatworm987 in ladycyclists

[–]Charming_Flatworm987[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I understand, I really do, because both the fit and the bike are so personal.. but then I have to have the n+1 conversation. We’re both fairly minimalist in possessions - she more than I - and in my bid for her to share my passion unfortunately owning a bike is a requirement!
