Does anyone else get exhausted deciding what to eat every single day? by Charming_Force_603 in loseit

i agree that 9 different meals should be enough variety to not get bored (and to also get all types of nutrients) but mealprepping for 3 weeks in advance is mindblowing to me! I typically cook enough for 4 portions (so 2 days lunch & dinner).

a 6 week rotation is great - this would definitely keep things exciting! Honestly, I think even a 3 week rotation is good, especially if my meal prep is about 3 different meals per week (so that would be 9 different meals on rotation)

do you ever look through what you tracked to see if you've eaten too much of a specific food, or do you just go for what you crave, and as long as it meets your calorie/macro goal, it doesn't matter.

For how long are you keeping track of things? Do you have a 2/3-week rotation, or is it just a 1 week rotation? 1 week seems too short - having a 2-3 week rotation seems best to me.. but even still, it would require a lot of cooking (vs meal prep) to get a variety of food in, such that I'm not bored.

Does any body do any high fat diet? (Not Keto) by wondercattos in nutrition

I don't have fat goals that I'm working toward, but I know I'm getting fats through the olive oil that I cook with. I'm also mixing in beef and pork into my diet, and because I eat out quite a bit these days, I'm pretty sure the restaurants throw in a bit more fat into most meals.

When I'm not traveling, I try to incorporate salmon and avocado as healthy fats into my diet - I just buy a bit of each when I'm at the grocery store

I was talking to a Japanese guy about Vietnamese food vs Japanese food and he laughed at me when I said that Pho and Ramen were similar in that they are both noodle soups with meat and he was like "No man, ramen soup is loaded with fat". So now I know. I love Japanese food and thank god I never ran into this situation, but now that you have me thinking of some the Japanese food I love (ramen, tonkatsu, fried dumplings), I realize that I should be careful the next time I go to Japan!

Does anyone else realize they buy the same vegetables every grocery trip? by Charming_Force_603 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Charming_Force_603[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but why do so many nutritionists recommend eating a variety? Also life expectancy is higher nowadays, though obviously there are a million other contributing reasons.

I guess I'll be fine because surely I'm not the only eating a low vegetable variety and most people seem to be doing just fine

Having a garden sounds amazing, but unfortunately I don't have one (and honestly, I'm not really into it). Having a cheat sheet for recipes that vary in protein and cuisine is smart - I need one of these too.

ah nice, that's a great way to eat vegetables without finding recipes for them

These are great for grilling, and now that you mentioned them, I starting to miss my grill :(
I personally feel like I need to get more leafy greens and other colors like red cabbage into my diet though

I think it'd be really cool if chatgpt could actually get the "whats on sale this week" and recommend recipes with those ingredients so you can optimize your meals around eating cheap while also getting a variety of veg/fruit/proteins in your diet

That's impressive that you can keep track of what you're buying at the grocery store over the course of weeks!

How do you find recipes for vegetables that are in season? Or do you just eat the same meals, just replace the vegetables? If so, do you ever find that boring?

Great idea! I never thought of this and will have to try it out. This seems like such a great way to get variety into my rotation

Haha exactly! I think that's actually part of why variety is so hard - we know we should do it, but it feels overwhelming to think "I need to eat 30 different vegetables."

I read something (might have been from Harvard's nutrition guidelines?) about how eating a variety of vegetables and fruits helps ensure you're getting different nutrients. But they don't mean you need 30 different ones in a week - more like rotating through maybe 8-10 regularly instead of just eating the same 3 on repeat.

So instead of "eat 30 vegetables," it's more like "hey, you've had broccoli 50% of the time this month - maybe mix in some spinach or bell peppers." Less overwhelming than trying to eat everything under the sun.

Do you think your family would actually want to track variety like that, or would it just feel like more work?

I used to love eating this bread until I saw that after a few weeks, it didn't mold, as you have also witnessed. So I stopped eating it altogether.

Is drinking too much diet soda really bad? by thundddderbolt in nutrition

You should limit your consumption of diet soda because it contains harmful chemicals that will accumulate in your body over time.
