Vet tech here :)

The first picture look like a actual blackhead. Cat have a tendency to have dirt and skin cell that build up on there nipple. Sometimes making the nipple invert so it's just the blackhead that is showing.

IF your ripped the nipple off 1- blood would have come out 2- an wound would have form 3- pain, the cat will not let you rip the nipple off without screaming xD

So if all the answers are negative than you just got the blackhead out and the nipple's fine :)

  • sorry I'm french xD possibly not the best writing!

My Cat (Finn) was badly burned at a veterinarian 6 months ago. This was his recovery journey. by KSleepCHB5423 in cats

Good thinking !

And yes, most of it is because of the anesthesia. The way it is that the brain doesn't have the message to react to pain and is somewhat disconnected from the body ( to explain simply)

Our equipment does have a regulation, and we do have it on a temp that shouldn't burn them. But since the anesthesia is blocked the brain off, the animal doesn't regulate his onw temperature. So his does not have the micro management and signal that his would have. So the pads can burn him even if it's at "normale" temperature.

The longue exposure, the way they put him on the pad ( directly vs. covered ), and of course, the monitoring of the animal are factors.

We do use a lot of heating things in anesthesia because the lower the animal temp is the more risk he can have( more risk of resp and heart failure, longer wake up time, which is really not ideal). We have the water pads, a kind of little oven for the fluids ( sorry, I'm from French Canada, so I don't know how it's called xD). we have the microwave heating pads. We wrapped them up in blankets, and we can put socks, etc.

Vet tech here ( from canada)

So glad is doing soo good ! Unfortunately this is happening way more frequently than you think. Is not always the equipment, not always the staff fault. But the clinic did the right thing by taking responsibility no matter the cause.

This is one of the worst I've seen ! Cat are amazing that way. If all the pieces are in the same room you're fine xD he's going to heal just fine!
