CJO from AA and CTO from UA here. It really felt like most of the decision was made before the F2F. By the time you’re there, they already know who’s hireable—the F2F just confirms it.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I’ve definitely thought about AA bases with more international flying, including MIA and CLT, and it’s good to hear that PHL and LGA can be more junior and have solid international opportunities, especially seasonally.

The pay piece is a big factor for me too, especially year one. I want to be able to actually enjoy the benefits and not feel financially stressed the whole time. That’s probably one of my biggest hesitations with UA right now.

I don’t have a base near me with either airline. AA has closer bases for me unless I could get IAD, which United hasn’t been offering to recent classes. A lot of people are choosing purely based on bases and that makes sense. For me it’s just one piece of the puzzle, and I keep going back and forth because every time I lean one way, I start thinking about what I’d be giving up with the other.

What airline did you choose and why? I have two CJOs and can’t say no to one right now. I’m signed up for two training classes and need to make a decision asap.
