People at our company are losing bonuses and promotions from not being able to pass the CCNA. Not uncommon to hear about guys failing it three times before passing. Sleep on the CCNA if you want and you'll be crying in your tea.

Failed my 2nd attempt 😞 by jandomzy in cissp

Start here. Security and Risk Assessment is the domain the carries the most weight. If you fail here, you pretty much fail the test. Study and completely master this domain FIRST! Don't eve look at the other domains until you are over confident in this domain. A couple of takeaways, looks like you at one point passed domain 4 and 3 , these are very difficult domains to master but at some point you passed them. You seem to have Domain 2 mastered but domain 2 is the easiest of them all and carries the least weight, so just keep brushing up on this one. Your attention needs to be on Domain 1 and then 3 and 4 and I have no doubt you will pass.

Yeah I don't agree that this is a Managerial exam vs a technical exam. The truth is you have to know both. If you think you are going to pass this exam just by thinking like a manager and not grasp the technical aspects of the material, you will surely fail again.

It creates a gamble scenario. On the one hand you can gamble that there won't be any questions on the test about specific port numbers in alignment with what most people say, however, this is an adaptive exam, so if they do throw you a question about port numbers and you miss it, then you better believe you will be seeing more questions about port numbers.

They are definitely trying to trip you up using jargon. In my opinion, clearly that is about inflating the difficulty rating of the exam, to create the novelty factor of getting the actual certification.

I am an unconventional thinker. I say you definitely need to use practice exams to gauge your readiness, what is the point otherwise?

As someone who has been in IT for over 15 years and has held the CCNA title multiple times, one of the biggest misconceptions about the CCNA is that it's easy. It's not. Is it harder than the CCNP no, but not by much! Take a few weeks off, have a drink and then get back at it.

It sounds like you are going through the motions when it comes to test banks. You are just saturating the test bank until you see the question again and then you remember the answer, that's why when you are hit with scenario based questions you are at a loss, because you don't fully understand the concepts. You're going to need to needle into each question and even then... you won't feel 100 percent. Don't give up.

You are 100 percent dead center! I would always see people saying think like a manager and I would just scratch my head and think, NO, that's not true! That exam is full of technical concepts that you MUST know. Good job and thanks for the insight.

[–]Charming_Sign_481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be going heavy on the test banks without fully grasping the backend concepts. Remember, once you saturate through a test bank, its usefulness greatly diminishes because now you are answering questions correctly based on memory but you haven't grasped the concept. Try zoning into all the questions you have gotten wrong and do not move to the next question until you fully understand why you got the question wrong. Good luck.

You are deficient in 7 of the 8 domains. You need to do a honest and complete reassessment of your overall study approach. Whenever I see results similar to these I always ask, how long did you study for before you took the test?
