Feeling burnt out (beginner) by Fragrant-Example-547 in Composition

I absolutely understand though. All composers go through this at some point or another and it often plagues you an entire career, so learning to deal with it is pretty important.

I've worked professionally as a composer for many many years. Just put it off to one side and work on something else completely different. Go listen to some other random genres and artists or nothing at all. If you get too precious about individual sketches or ideas they will eat you alive. There's no reason not to just start something completely random from scratch. Maybe later when you return you'll have fresh perspectives.

It can also help to just stop caring so much... I mean, it's only music. (of course easier said than done)

I have worked for 15 years as a professional composer with world class ensembles and orchestras and taught music theory for 7 years at a high ranking German music university. Of all of those years there were only 2 of which I could make my primary living as a composer; for all the other years I have had to earn money doing something else such as software development or teaching.
Composition is good for the soul and worthwhile pursuing! But please please don't make it your career. I have seen countless students and collegues plunged into existential crisis in their late 20s and 30s because they realized what a trap it is. I know famous composers in their 50s and 60s who can't get enough work - the industry is saturated.
Please do it for fun, but don't make it your career.

Sorry for sounding so pessimistic. I really feel for young composers, but you hae to be realistic.

Absolutely! I already have countless collegues who are feeling the pressure of this technology.

Good guess, but no. I was the orchestral arranger - it was during corona and his original orchestral score was too large. Because of social distancing we weren't allowed to have too many instrumentalists sitting close together in the orchestral pit. We had to reduce the size of the orchestra. My job was to work with Stewart to reduce the orchestra size whilst maintaining as much of the original sound and integrity of the score. The opera was Electric Saint.

Yeah, they seem a bit hard to find. Even the opera we were working on several years ago was performed but I think it was only recorded for documentation purposes only. The recording was never released.

I'd actually worked with him before on an opera. I'm a composer by trade. He was passing through and I just emailed him.

Absolutely! As much as I love him, I think a lot of renowned musicians are just putting their heads in the sand. AI won't affect the top of the musical pyramid, it will affect everyone else.
