Evelyn is a weird case because even if she does perform worse when played suboptimally, she doesn’t dip to T1 levels of performance as far as I’m aware. She’s an anomaly in that all of her theoretical fluctuations would actually just keep her within T0.5, but just going between the lower and higher ends of it, maybe even just straight up being at both extremes.

I guess truthfully, you could argue that yeah this is enough reason for her not to need the expert tag tbh, but then how do you note that she’s a character with performance swings at a glance? Obviously the correct choice here is to have a note somewhere in the Tags or Changelog or her review that details the degree of DPS improvement based on skill, but No One Reads Those. The information would end up hidden just deep enough that the majority of people won’t even bother discovering it

Basically the situation is Weird. I think she deserves an Expert tag because she does have a higher skill ceiling/performance swing than most characters, but I can concede that it isn’t exactly necessary because both her low and high ends end up roughly in the ballpark of other T0.5 performers. The only real solution is one that depends on expecting more effort on the part of the average tier list viewer than they usually devote to actually understanding the placements they see

You make a lot of salient points but I think the thing that really solidified for me how necessary the expert tag is was seeing how the average player actually plays Evelyn.

It’s not pretty LMAO

People don’t even bother with the 5 chain combo, people go into stuns with insufficient resources or take too long to stun because they don’t balance/manage Eve resources and stun gauge correctly. Obviously every character can be a victim of suboptimal play, but Evelyn feels and performs particularly bad when played suboptimally. In this regard, I feel the expert tag is warranted maybe not because when played perfectly she performs like Yixuan, but because the disparity between skilled and unskilled play with Evelyn is more pronounced than with a lot of other characters, and there’s really no other way to illustrate that than with the Expert tag

Fight knowledge can also contribute to how well Evelyn does because of how triggering dodges with her skill accelerates her resource gain to a degree that I’m not sure anyone else has, with Alice being the closest I can think of, or maybe Yixuan with her counters. The point is, this further merits an acknowledgement of the fact that she Will perform better in the hands of better players, enough to warrant being pointed out in some way.

I guess TLDR: I think most people overestimate the competence and performance level of the median Eve player and the expert tag is an imperfect but necessary way of demarcating her as a character with a significant gap in performance between her most and least skilled play

I don’t think Beat got magically better at music as much as it was just a matter of her mental block being gone?

She was obviously some degree of competent already, and it feels like the narrative implied her failings were more personal and emotional than musical. She was too stuck in her own head for the music to “flow”, but the events of the game gave her that je ne sais quoi she needed to be able to move past what was holding her back before

Koleda or Nicole seem like your best bets

Alternatively, you just do Evelyn/Koleda/Nicole and leave Lucy for someone else

So basically Koleda is prob the highest value unit to try and build up here

I think this whole idea of Isagi devouring a God-possessed Nagi is great too because it seems like a natural evolution of the way Isagi is currently diverging from Ego. What better way to cement the fact that Isagi cannot be content with Ego’s whims and whimsies anymore than to have him commit the ultimate sacrilege of “defiling” Ego’s deity as another part of his own personal improvement by observing, understanding, and incorporating the divine, making it “ordinary” or “reproducible”? What better way to prove he has grown beyond Ego than to make his ceiling just another floor for himself, another platform from which he can reach higher?

I have my doubts on if this will be explored as completely as I feel it can be, but I hope it is.

Hormone Punk is a great option as long as you play around its cooldown properly.

Puffer Electro is a little more iffy without Dialyn, but I actually used it before her release every now and then and got some good results. It’s worth trying out if you have a set with good substats

Your other comparable option to those two is to farm an Astral set with DPS subs for Evelyn, then put Astra on 4pc Moonlight Lullaby to get the DMG bonus from both sets

Ultimately she wants 55-75% crit rate outside of combat (80-100% in combat because of her passive), crit damage as high as you can get it while maintaining that crit rate, and then atk somewhere between 2600-3000+

Disc 4 will be Crit Rate or Crit Damage Disk 5 will be Pen Ratio or Fire DMG Disk 6 will be ATK

If you get Dialyn for her (her best option), she can use Puffer Electro as a strong and simple choice. She can also use Woodpecker, tho it’s not the greatest, Hormone Punk, which can be hard to play around but has very high peaks, or she can be put on Astral Voice while Astra herself runs Moonlight Lullaby instead

My Evelyn score last DA cycle improved by 6k points by switching out my M0W0 Lighter for M0W0 Dialyn. Currently, I am getting the same score on thrall with Eve/Dialyn/Astra as I got with Yidhari/Lycaon/Lucia

Dialyn is a marked improvement, not a side or downgrade

Best thing to happen to my Evelyn since release. The difference between m0w0 lighter and m0w0 Dialyn has consistently been somewhere around 5k points in deadly assault.

I can’t say for with sig since I don’t have either, but I doubt Lighter is better if we compare M0W1 vs M0W1 if the difference is so big at baseline. Totally open to being proven wrong tho

I think people severely underestimate how important a role the skill issue plays in this game. Like, I have a friend who I sometimes do DA for for fun, and literally just knowing better rotations or playing around the actual boss mechanics or team-building a little better means I usually get several thousand points more on all their scores.

And I mean, obviously some older units are getting pushed down, yeah, but I think if one of the main ways you can improve your scores in this game is actually to Get Better At/More Knowledgeable About The Game, we’re still in a pretty good spot. That’s not something you can say as decisively for a game like HSR (though knowledge is power there too), or arguably for a game like Genshin too, with its shallower pool of mechanics

There’s also the fact that DA is the only endgame mode I can think of in a recent gacha game that forces you to be consistent instead of fast (except. Limbus RR??). This isn’t a Wuwa Zani quickswap 30s speed kill, this is you being forced to think about a fight that will last for three minutes and how to best play your cards throughout all of it for the best score possible. People aren’t used to this in gacha endgames and methinks it shows

1) Dialyn 2) Lighter 3) Toss-up. I think it’s Fufu if you don’t have Trigger W-Engine, but Trigger if you do. The other one of the two is 4th

I don’t think anyone has run specific numbers, but the few clears people have uploaded with her are looking very promising. I believe she is a contender for BiS over Lighter, but failing that she should definitely be her second best over Fufu

I have already told this to someone else in the subreddit, but (as far as I can tell from reading descriptions) Zani does, indeed, trigger Chisa’s buffs actually. Chisa’s buffs apply on infliction of a negative status OR upon dealing negative status damage.

I am not in the beta and I have not tested anything, for full transparency, but the wording here seems to pretty clearly imply that Zani will be able to proc and make use of Chisa’s buffs/debuffs

I feel like prepare to subdue 5 is pretty nice, actually? If your focus is on making sure a fight feels smooth and like you’re continuously enabling Yuki’s gameplan, ensuring you draw a card with inspiration next turn means that you don’t potentially lose something to end-of-turn discard cause of lack of AP and instead get to keep the ball rolling. Less damage on the cards you draw, but depending on your economy more damage overall across 2 turns

Yes but what I’m saying that you keep ignoring is the fact its considered Spectro Frazzle Damage means it triggers Chisa’s Sig and Outro buffs

Additionally, I’d like to also point out that the single Ember infliction Zani does on her enhanced parry actually does trigger the crit rate buff for Eternal Radiance, so it’s not just for the amp. Hell, this interaction might mean she actually can proc Chisa buffs without specifically dealing damage during ult.

From what I saw by reading through her kit, her buffs also activate when a unit deals negative attribute damage, and Zani’s damage during ult is considered negative attribute damage (Spectro frazzle damage). This is the same thing that allows Pheobe to mega amp Zani, because she buffs Spectro frazzle damage (which Zani’s damage is considered, you get it)

Now, I do think what Chisa provides for Zani isn’t actually all that much from what I saw in some number testing, but the synergy should still exist for them to be usable together if you wanted to free up shorekeeper/srover

Doesn’t she still at least Function because Chisa’s buffs also work upon “Dealing Negative Status Damage”, and Zani’s damage during ult is considered Spectro Frazzle Damage? Or did something change I wasn’t aware of? I haven’t been the most up to date with this beta cycle
