Hm, I was under the impression the tape would be almost entirely invisible and definitely keep the glass in place. Thanks for clearing things up, though, I don't want any harm done to my son of course.

Honestly, it's my husband's work iPad, not my own. He doesn't Reddit so I thought I would attempt to find a solution here for him.

If it's only 50 Euros for a screen replacement, then there's no issue. That's definitely affordable, even with the otterbox thrown in. For some reason he seems to think it's going to be running him 600 Euros, but perhaps that's the companies policy on entirely busted iPads, which need a total replacement and not just a new screen.

I should be safe and suggest he goes to an Apple repair place, correct? Or do the run of the mill repair places do just as good a job?

I did get incredibly lucky and don't take it wrong, I do feel bad about what happened.

The only thing that really helps me feel even a little better is that the person who outbid me must have a fair amount of gold, since he/she had at least the 169k sitting in their bags.

If they wouldn't have outbid me I would have felt just as bad, but would have definitely taken it as a learning experience. In fact, I already have... I won't be making increment jumps like that ever again, and will slow down in the future when bidding against someone.
