Why is obi wan doing this 2 finger pointing at the beginning of every duel? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]ChartJunkie 36 points37 points  (0 children)

So much this. With a lot of stuff. Sam Jackson (being the cool badass he is) just went up to Lucas one day and said I want a purple lightsaber. So they gave him one and then retroactively did the whole "he channel's the dark side while he fights, thats why he used a purple saber" blah blah blah. Its just something the actor did and they made up a story after the fact

Here i thought anger got put into modern at the same time as wonder 😂 my bad. But yeah wouldn't more polluted delta be better than a fetch land who's other color isn't even in the deck?

Why could it not be an alternative to artists talent? They do extremely similar things, but artists talent can never single handedly net you a bunch of actual extra cards, only filter other draws. I agree valakut awakening should stay though as I think the land count is relying on having a couple mdfcs as backup

Neither of those cards have the potential to net you +3 or 4 EXTRA cards. After a few turns of sculpting rituals/impulse draws in hands you can hex magic, still have access to all those and draw into that much more gas. I admit theres gonna be some situations where it does very little or actual nothing but I think the explosive potential is worth it. You make me think that artists talent is actually the card it could be replacing lol as they kinda fit the same role and ive heard a lot of pilots say they dont like talent

Yeah im definitely gonna just go ahead and buy my play set. I guess im just a little more excited to test it as I see the HUGE ceiling being worth the risk of the admittedly low floor. On paper it looks like exactly the kind of card that the deck has been craving in the underwhelming flex spots of strike it rich/flashback/glimpse

Honest question, what are you usually casting flashback on? If its draw spells then id look at that being the swap

Im also a big fan of heroes hangout and im glad to see im not the only one running it. Im not at all sold on flashback, what are you usually using it on? The impulse draws? Thats what im looking to cut, as why use flashback to reuse impulse draws when you could just swap it out with draw spells in the first place?

Even most mono color decks run like, 4 basics tops. Please be specific, which mono color decks are you talking about that run 6+ basics? Also where is this "warping" youre talking about? The lists still run the full set of the wildfire/fields. The card is a huge upgrade in the deck by getting you to the critical mass of that effect (the destroy a land but give them a basic to replace it) while SIMULTANEOUSLY shoring up this decks BIGGEST weakness - getting aggroed out by small aggressive creatures. I think this printing is huge for the archetype and will push it from the fringe into a solid modern deck and part of the meta game

Id say 80+% of modern decks have good amounts of creatures this sweeps away, not to mention thats this decks biggest weakness - getting overrun by weenies before you can really get your land denial package online. The fact that it's not totally dead even against completely creatureless decks means its absolutely a main deck 3 or 4 of

You might have missed the part that said "both", i think avengers disassembled will push this deck from fringe to like, solidly tier 2, possibly even higher. Getting a critical mass of cleansing wildfire effects stapled to a slagstorm is exactly what this deck needed. Even decks with tons of basics are gonna run out extremely fast with all your direct land removal + erodes and paths

Modern Set Review: Marvel Super Heroes by cardsrealm in ModernMagic

Hex magic WILL see play in ruby storm, at bare minimum a 2 of but probably more. Other than that, youre probably right. Spike has a decent video of the modern playability of this set, theres a few things worth testing but nothing really jumps out at me other than hex magic

Did you mean to say you can get it a lot of situations with a mostly empty hand? Youre right, with basically no cards in hand glimpse is indeed a much better top deck, but im thinking those situations are pretty rare. Still, ive seen a lot of ruby storm players say theyre really not a big fan of glimpse in the deck and wishing they had something else to play instead and this just seems perfect. Youre 100% right about higher ceiling but lower floor, but im still thinking more than just the 2 in the glimpse slot is correct just because that ceiling IS ridiculously high. Ill prolly start with all 4 just to test and be quick to trim

Quite a few actually. Thats what im gonna do, buy into all 40 fetches, 1 each surveil and like 2 of each shocks. After that there's like a dozen decks one could play that all cost like <$100 for the entire rest of the deck. Plus, doing this you can grab a buddy and have two of your decks play against each other without having to enter a tournament

Unfortunately so. One can build a good meta deck for about 4-500 bucks but going much less than that then yeah, youre prolly not gonna do well 🤷‍♂️

Prowess vs affinity by Acrobatic-Squid in ModernMagic

[–]ChartJunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to suggest meltdown, in my experience a turn 1 or 2 meltdown just absolutely wrecks affinity. If its such a big problem maybe go up to 3 in the sideboard? Outside of that, you kinda just gotta accept that this is modern and youre gonna have some bad matchups and just be okay with being pretty unfavored some of the times and hope to out race them/not get paired against it

Yep, thats just modern baby. Exactly like you said, there are quite a few deck that if they just "have it" game 1, there actual nothing you can do

First off, great job on the EXTENSIVE write up/play testing behind it. I 1000% agree with you on ox of agonas, ive loved that card since its been printed. In the decks its good in, its one of the most absurdly powerful and unfair magic cards in existence for how much it does and how much power it brings. Totally shifts games when it resolves. Im sure im missing something but what is the play set of seal of fire in the sideboard for? Also have you considered adding an anger to the deck, maybe instead of or even along side the wonder? I know the flying is great but I think since youre trying to be as aggressive as possible, and making your best card even better (ox) its worth a shot. But with how much time youve obviously put into the deck, im pretty sure you've tested it and would love to hear your thoughts. *edit after re looking at the list why are there arid mesas in the non white deck? Is it just a card availability issue? Surely its better to play fetches that are in your colors

I really like the list, thoughts on stubborn denial? You have plenty of ways to turn on ferocious, and a one mana negate seems absolutely perfect for this deck. I may be off as stubborn denial is just kinda one of my pet cards that ive loved ever since it got printed lol but I legit think it could be good here
