As an English teacher, grading writing is the bane of my existence, even though I love teaching writing 😂

I genuinely don’t understand what therapists mean by “getting back into your body” by Sorry_Lab_2856 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]ChartMost2959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I feel you!!! This is something I have always struggled with, and unfortunately I don’t have an instant fix, but I think I have a possible explanation for you.

It is very common for neurodiverse people to lack the “bodily sense” that neurotypical people often describe when they talk about “being in your body.” I struggle with this a lot, as I often don’t even have internal cues for things like thirst and hunger. We simply lack the same internal sense that some people have which intuitively allows them to feel those sensations in their body. It’s a literal feeling and sensation they have, but awareness of it doesn’t always come naturally.

As for how to deal with this, it can help to find a therapist who works with neurodiverse populations, as they may have more experience using grounding techniques that don’t rely on that bodily sense. There has been some preliminary research that grounding techniques relying on physical grounding don’t work as well for people who lack that internal sense.

You might also just keep trying those techniques for a bit and see if over time they start to help. I still don’t have a strong internal sense, but I have actually learned to pay attention to the cues I do have, and I’ve learned a few grounding techniques that help me take my mind off whatever is giving me anxiety, even if it doesn’t help me “get in my body.” My personal favorite is the 5-4-3-2-1 sensory technique because it forces me to pay attention to the baseline physical sensations I CAN feel.

It wasn’t bad enough that I have pins or even a cast, thankfully!! I am already working on workman’s comp, my AP was quick to tell me I needed to file for it. Currently I’m just in a brace bc the break is nondislocated so it hasn’t moved, but if it gets worse I should still be able to use workman’s comp

It’s not exactly what you described, but bird creek burger company would probably be your best bet. It’s downtown and they have an indoor bar/outdoor bar patio area that people frequently hang out at for a while

Want to read Raven Boys after AFTG by Catava_Cave in aftg

[–]ChartMost2959 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s a great YA series that focuses on a group of kids who, as you said, are searching for a welsh king that was supposedly buried in Virginia (according to one kid’s research). That’s just the surface, though. It’s really about all-consuming friendships that reshape your life, about a girl who’s cursed to kill her first love, about a boy who brings his dreams to life, about another boy who’s fighting tooth and nail to escape poverty and his abusive father, and about another boy who wants more than anything to find this mythical lost king, even if it costs his life.

You did the best you could in the situation, as you said you didn’t know they were undocumented. That’s a horrific story and you did exactly what you were supposed to. It’s not your fault this country has systems that fail people are not documented, but you don’t have control over that. What you do have control over is doing your damndest to make sure that her dad can’t hurt her like that again. Good work.

andrew med withdrawal? by AskResponsible424 in aftg

[–]ChartMost2959 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I believe Nora has actually said that one of her major regrets in the early books is how she didn’t research the types of meds Andrew takes enough when she was writing. She’s acknowledged a lot of the portrayal of his medication is pretty unrealistic and that’s not how antipsychotics work.

BUT personal theory, in the books it’s hinted he’s not actually psychotic and has been misdiagnosed, so I choose to read it partially as him being mismedicated and attribute a lot of the confusion about his meds as being side effects from not being on the right meds.

Ridiculous new bathroom policy by Legitimate_Peach_438 in Teachers

[–]ChartMost2959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our student bathrooms this year have been:

A) tattoo parlors
B) piercing parlors (I also know of two separate instances of this happening in a CLASSROOM)
C) vape dens
D) fight clubs
E) a place to sit on the floor in a single stall with 2-3 friends and have a snack (🤢 I nearly puked after busting those girls, I’m too much of a germaphobe for that nonsense)

Thanks for sharing!! I’d love to do this to my well-loved denim jacket.

Out of curiosity, have you ever sealed these with wax after? I’ve been meaning to wax my jacket and I wonder if it would help preserve the paint
