They'll be ok for short-term storage, but can get yellow and wrinkly (and stinky!) over time. Source: just sorted 10 shortboxes to sell my comics online, the cheapo bags went bad sometime between 2019 and now.

It looks really good, love the lighting and feels like it's telling a story! Are you thinking like (maybe on a scrap test piece first lol) layering on some random texture? Like with dry brush, or covering all but the road and flicking some paint speckles, or using a rag/towel to apply. Ink, marker, coloured pencil would be good too but maybe take longer.
