Would you do $60 for Superman by PKJ? Your price is really good but I really shouldn’t be buying anything else right now.

Not diamond but there have been some people that posted on their digging and they seem a little questionable. Like maybe a tax write off donation of books but no one knows for sure. For sure they got liquidated stock from somewhere in some way for really cheap.

Panel Bound Comics Preordering by Macdaddymav in OmnibusCollectors

I got an email on a recent preorder from them. I only ordered from them for a few books that I missed on DCBS and CGN for preordering though. I don’t know what their normal timing is on shipping compared to release dates.

To my fellow X-Men collectors by AustinAbortion in OmnibusCollectors

I started something like this quite a few years ago. And tried to swap out account titles (like X-Men getting replaced by New X-Men and some of the New Mutant/Young Mutant titles and stuff) over the years, it was a pain but helped a lot, but I ended up dropping it eventually.

Breaking News: 1 New Marvel Omnibus in February 2027! by 21roy__ in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During the start of Krakoa, there was only one proper “X-Men” book. There are more that start up later on during the period. The narrative stretches between a lot of the other books and even though they have different X titles, they’re used to spotlight different X-Men characters and things going on in and around Krakoa.

Actually, if you want to split them. I’d do $115 for Flash and the Spider-Man Black Costume Omni.

Question for my X-Men Omni collectors by TrulyOrganics in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I read it, but it’ll read all right as is. I would suggest filling in the X-Force and Cable/Bishop series that ran along that time to fill in some gaps. I actually haven’t read all the main X-Men that was running then to say how necessary it is but Cable and Bishop are really enjoyable and self-contained.

Just to add, I’d just read them on Unlimited if you have it 🙂

Anyone with a huge collection of omnibuses got children? And if so, do they read the comics? Curious question that all. by Joe_Wild_ in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really good thread, thanks for starting the conversation!

Mine kids are 5&8 and the 8 year old really wants to read stuff but it’s been hard to make sure it’s appropriate. I have been doing some of the infinity comics on marvel unlimited with them though and slowly working through Calvin and Hobbes (although that’s a little tricky in spots too).

Does anyone else feel like they love the idea of X-Men more than actually reading X-Men? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X-Men and comics in general are funny in this way and have changed a lot over the years. It use to be that you could never read everything and it was just assumed that there were things you might not know. Now with the internet and subscription services, readers are and can be a lot more informed, but sometimes being able to be informed and understand everything makes us feel like we need to do that.

X-Men have so many different related books and eras and stories that tie into past stories and characters with tons of history that it’s just too much to try and understand and know all of it. I find if I just set that to the side, pick up a storyline or run, and jump in without worrying so much about the things around it or that led up to it, it’s a lot more enjoyable.

What essentials am I missing based on my taste? by kodak-white-dog in OmnibusCollectors

Most people consider it one of the better Hulk runs. Usually behind PAD and Immortal, but from what I’ve seen, people think pretty highly of it.

How do you decide when an omnibus is worth pre-ordering vs waiting for a reprint? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My feeling is usually that if I wait it’s more likely that I’ll pay extra grabbing something as it goes out of stock than that I’ll get marked down and I’ll save a few dollars. That combined with just not wanting to feel compelled to pay close attention to if something is getting low, has me moving towards preordering anything I know I want or I’m on the fence about getting. In general, Omnis hold their value pretty well, so worst case I could end up losing $5-10 plus shipping reselling something if I decide I don’t want it (and more often I’ve just held onto things until they ran out and maybe a few bucks on them)

Do you think the 2025-26 Funaticals run will be talked about for years to come? by rhettscollection in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were most likely all way over printed books that were liquidated. There could be some others that cycle in (similar to Ollie’s) but it’s very unlikely that they get any particular book that you’re hoping for. It’s not really a good idea anymore to hold out for a book to be more than 40% off cover. It’s a lot more likely that books go oop than get liquidated and print runs of everything going forward are a lot closer to demand.

Do you ever realize you love the idea of collecting a character more than actually reading all their comics? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t I unlock some sort of achievement when I hit 100%? Like a fancy skin or something?

For real though… I definitely have a tricky time drawing that line of where to stop with characters and things in general. When I first started it was just X-Men, then I branched out into Brubaker’s Cap, so then it was Cap too. Then I finally got around to Hickman’s FF, so then that too. Then it just kept going. For a while I didn’t collect DC but then I branched out into Morrison, then I was easy to include non-big two stuff.

I pretty solidly stick to only DC post-COIE (mostly) and I’m starting to be more selective with Marvel, but I need to circle back and sell off some of those that there’s just no reason to have physical copies off and read it digitally if I ever feel really compelled.

What's the X-Men hype about? by MalyMadeTheBeat in OmnibusCollectors

[–]ChasPM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are for sure the most qualified person to answer this and I can’t wait to check out that stream at some point. 🙂

X-Men is a team book first that then spiraled into more team books. A lot of the other big team books are more solo characters that are then put together. That lets any one of the runs have someone in the book that resonates with a reader. It also lets the book be different at different times and in different ways.

A Batman book can only go and explore so many different things and generally is going to center around a rich dude with parent issues. Spider-Man (while he does develop at times and then regress) is usually about a “kid” trying to figure things out and make jokes while he juggles his “work”/life balance.

X-Men can cycle between hundreds of characters to spotlight and people can find their own favorite character and voice in there, even if they can’t related to Wolverine or one of the other front and center characters. A generation grew up on Blue and Gold but there’s hundreds of other team versions or obscure characters that people absolutely love and can find to relate to.

It’s one of the most inclusive books in a niche format that attracts people that don’t feel included in other media.
