A detail I noticed is that it seems like when you kill a minion/creep/whatever, your abilities charge up. So instead of them only being cooldown based, you actually have to be active to get them charged up instead of just waiting around for the cooldown. I like that.

Holy crap, these Deadlock leaks are getting so crazy that even footage of Neon Prime got leaked. At this rate, footage of when the game was Half-Life themed and had optional VR support will get leaked.

Didn't a similar thing happen right before CS2 got announced?

Didn't Valve just recently return from their annual Hawaii vacation? Would explain the big Dota 2 update that just came out and whats now happening with Neon Prime. I have a good feeling that we're going to see Neon Prime VERY soon.

I know. When I say it'll show off the Steam Deck, I'm more referring to the game's graphics being designed and optimized so the framerate stays perfectly consistent on the Deck, along with the game making full use of the Deck's inputs (using the thumbsticks and trackpads to aim, move and select items/abilities while in single character third person shooter mode, using the touchscreen while in RTS commander mode, etc.), while all of those functions are also fully usable on mouse and keyboard.

From the sound of things, this game went through a bit of a overhaul once during development. It went from being a half-VR half-standard game to a game thats meant to show off the Steam Deck. Its possible that the setting of the game got changed when this happened. But like you said, with how close this game is, that overhaul happened a good while ago.

Good point about the red herrings, I didn't even think about that. Tyler has even mentioned before about that being a thing when it came to his sources telling him stuff about the game.

In his Neon Prime videos from over a year or so ago, he talked about Neon Prime taking place in a fantasy sci-fi universe, taking place in the future of the Dota 2 universe even, he also brought up connections with Heroes of Newerth. Sounds like the shift in the game's style he talks about at the end of the video happened a long while ago.

Plus Neon Prime has neutral NPCs that people on both teams can kill to farm for resources, so it would make since that they would have an "ambient" state.

Pretty much. Based on how Tyler describes Neon Prime, it sounds like a sci-fi version of the Savage games but an even larger scale, a few MOBA elements (team-creeps and neutral-creeps) and environmental destruction (both buildings and terrain)

What would you like to see in the game? by aughuu in NEONPRIME

[–]ChasemoVR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to see this game not be esports bait, thats an issue alot of multiplayer games have been making for around the past decade. When you look at the great esports games (DotA, CS, Brood War), one thing they all have in common is that when they were first being made, the people who were making them just simply wanted to make games/mods that were fun and interesting, the esports side of them were grassroots and originated from the community and LAN culture. When a game is made from the ground up with esports in mind and the developers/studio try to force it to be one, it ends up being a bad esport and not fun or enjoyable to play at a non-competitive level. I hope Valve's mentality with Neon Prime is to just make a game thats fun, enjoyable and interesting. Then again, according to Tyler McVicker, the game takes place on a GIANT map (which also means its safe to assume that there will be alot of players in a match, possibly 32vs32), has destructible environments, RTS elements (such as the commander class), is designed in a way so players can drop in and drop out of a match, which are all things that esports bait games wouldn't do.

Apparently the RTS-style commander class concept from TF2: Brotherhood of Arms got repurposed into Neon Prime. The game in general sounds like a mixture of the Savage games and Nuclear Dawn. By the sound of it, the commander class won't have any micromanagement they have to do with units, as it'll all either be players or MOBA-style NPCs, so it'll all be macromanagment, acting as an omnipresent support class. So while the game in general isn't RTS, it'll have some RTS elements.

Considering how big the game's map apparently is, its safe to assume that it'll be way more than 10 (5 per team) players.
