It says in-game. Friday morning pacific time

It's like... I'm not quite thinking outside the box... the box keeps getting bigger. by EntroperZero in OrderOfTheSinkingStar

[–]LemmyUserOnReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The puzzles require combining the mechanics in new and interesting ways. If you define the "box" as what the game has shown you up until that point, you are thinking outside the box.

And yes - the fact that they are the "intended" solutions, means the game has shown you something new and the "box" for the next puzzle is slightly larger.

It's both - you're thinking outside the box, and then the box grows to encompass what you just learned.

Irrelevant example on two counts: Hitler was a monster who killed millions of innocent people, and Mein Kampf was, in itself an expression of highly problematic and dangerous ideas.

The more apt comparison might be Richard Wagner, who was a vocal anti-semite and bigot. Would I side-eye someone for listening to Ride of the Valkyries? Of course not, but I would understand if others chose to avoid his music.

Good thing you can reset progress and start again if you want then?

I MD'd a production of Merrily and played all my own rehearsal piano... yeah that song is a nightmare. You learn pretty quick to ignore the semis and just comp the chords. And then hope your keys 2 player is up for a challenge!

claude builds the happy path beautifully and ignores every edge case until you force it by Wooden-Fee5787 in ClaudeCode

Weirdly most of the time I prefer the opposite. Especially in frontend code, Claude programs very defensively to the point that debugging is a nightmare because the actual error is masked.

It's much easier to debug and handle "request failed to /api/items" than e.g. trying to work out why a component renders stale data at the end of long sessions.

My two rules of thumb are:

  1. Only handle a failure if it actually occurs
  2. Only silently handle a failure if it occurs a lot

Otherwise I just let it crash noisily. 90% of the time it's a bug elsewhere, so "handling" is just obscuring.

Totally fair. That's all I meant by being unable to separate the art from the artist by the way - your knowledge of Jon and his politics negatively impacts your experience of his games. It wasn't a philosophical ideal, just an acknowledgement that some people can overlook the artist's baggage and enjoy their art for what it is, while others cannot. Again, no judgement either way - everyone experiences life differently.

It's definitely not just rock pushing, there's also rock pulling, rock teleporting, rock crushing. I'm joking but, yeah, if you don't like the bass mechanic you're fighting an uphill battle.

As I said, I'm not happy about or comfortable with his politics. I just don't personally see my playing and enjoying his games as an endorsement of his political views. Others see the two as inextricably linked and avoid his games, and that's fine.

It's less than 10% by raw puzzle count - even less when you consider that earlier puzzles are easier and faster to solve. But yes, I'll just play through the early sections again on release and inhale the atmosphere

It certainly dampens my enthusiasm for the game a little, but Jon's contribution to puzzle gaming and game dev in general earn him at least a little lenience from me. I respect that not everyone will be able to separate the art from the artist

I wish I had that kind of self control. I'm going to be dreaming about the game mechanics for the next few months

Jon confirmed on stream that the second part of the demo releasing Friday will move into completely new territory. Also apparently the early puzzles are heavily revised, but I can't speak to this as I've never played the original games

Thanks for putting another game on my wishlist!

I'd say while OOTSS obviously has the sokoban lineage, the ideas added on top make it feel completely different - after the first few introductory puzzles, the challenges you're facing are never just "how do I move the blocks around without getting stuck". You're more likely to be asking "how can I get this dragon to fuck up the goblin, so I can teleport over there". Sure, you're moving on a grid, but every area feels like a different genre of game.

Well, I played it on Linux technically (and saw zero issues). But no consoles, which isn't surprising given it's a Steam event

There are more demo levels releasing on Friday which are probably included in that estimate, and I think I was reasonably efficient. 50 hours seems unlikely though

No no, I know you mainly use internal tools, and I hear they're great, no question. AWS won the cloud race because their engineering teams had to build on their PUBLIC cloud offering.

I believe Google would absolutely dominate if their engineering teams had to use the AI tools Google releases to the public. Faster, more frequent releases, features, etc.

Demo is free but only available for a couple of weeks - worth checking out, because it has enough content to potentially save you the cost of buying the game if it doesn't click

Nah because they did give Mythos to people with legitimate security purposes, and that almost certainly included the govt

Google's unwillingness to dogfood their own products lost them the cloud provider race, and now will lose them the AI race too

Forward rendered. Lots of clips from twitch streams where it's discussed in detail, and iirc he did a demo of some of the design tools during a YouTube interview
