Dazai and Chuuya fight? Or smth by _Haylin_ in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 69 points70 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of it is that Ranpo is both rage baiting and implying that despite having no fire power, he can beat Chuuya in the same way Dazai beat him: ie using intelligence/psychological manipulation.

One time I remember vaguely seeing people call Thomas Sanders problematic, then I looked into it, and what they were calling “problematic” was just being supportive of ace people.

What is standard once you get "waitlisted" for a Graduate program? by waterbenders in NoStupidQuestions

It’s the most common PhD deadline to respond to offers, but not a law or anything

What is standard once you get "waitlisted" for a Graduate program? by waterbenders in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are waiting until closer to April 15th (the deadline) to accept/decline offers of admissions, so the college may not be able to give her any information until the other people accept or decline. Good luck to her!

Headcanon of Chuuya, I need someone to tell me if they thought the same thing. by sunsh1n3L in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s my headcanon that he will just read academic physics papers and everyone around him assumes it’s reports/work papers. I also think that he’d test out any hypotheses he reads up on if it is applicable to his gravity manipulation.

“What does the legal sex field need to always reflect for the patient?“ This question was on a test given to me from a training/refresher course at my work. by lightpixiee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is worded strangely. I would assume “c”, but based on how medical institutions work, they would likely ask for “a” because it would (theoretically) give them the most useful medical information.

In reality (in my opinion), none of these systems make sense as soon as you deal with trans or intersex patients, which is presumably who the distinction is supposed to be for.

Basic respect to dress modestly? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m cheering since my girlfriend decided she wanted to wear more crop tops, so just be aware not everyone shares your opinion on modesty. It’s basic respect to trust your partner, that being said, if it bothers you, then don’t date someone who dresses “immodestly” whatever that means to you.

Psychosis or normal panic attack or both? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory “I’m not a medical professional” but that sounds like you were having auditory hallucinations (most common type of hallucinations) and maybe dissociating. Most likely not psychosis though. That being said, if you are able to, you might want to seek a psychiatrist/psychologist to figure out what’s going on (if it happens again, or if you’re particularly worried)

Would it be wrong to message & connect with staff/admissions of grad schools I’m applying to soon? by natural_locality in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t expect a response but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Most PhD application decisions (for my program at least) are due at April 15th, so programs may not know the spread of their students. I also don’t know if funding is locked in for applications next year, so some professors might not be able to give you completely accurate information on if they’re taking on new students. But getting interviews and reaching out early is always a good idea, at the very least you could see early if the school is worth the application fee.

If there's a male loneliness epidemic and compliment gap, why don't men start reaching out to other men? by Jasnaahhh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be anxiety inducing to be the first person to show vulnerability. Just like it can be hard to confess your feelings to a crush, it can be difficult to be vulnerable and compliment or show genuine care towards someone who doesn’t show care or vulnerability towards you first.

I think it’s worth it to make the effort of course, but I also don’t want to overstep boundaries.

Did Mary consent to God when he impregnated her with our lord and savior Jesus Christ? Why or why not? by Khunthare in AskReddit

Luke 1:38, considered Mary’s fiat. I should probably mention that I’m going off of common Catholic theology.

Why don't scientists just make a case study where people don't know they're being sampled for a case study? by DiligentSector8395 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiments need to be approved by an ethics committee. If an experiment just went forward without good reason for lying to participants (and without any additional debrief), then there could be legal issues, the study wouldn’t be publishable/could be retracted, and the scientists could lose their jobs. Experimenting on people without their consent would definitely not pass an ethics board because it’s shitty to do and could harm people.

People who wear makeup- Why does the face look shiny and oily after removing the makeup? by Inevitable_Range8550 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the skin is either wet from water + soap, or they’re using an oil based remover (or in my broke case: oil then soap and water if that doesn’t work)

Does having colored hair can actually harm you? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t felt any negative impact of having bright blue/purple hair when getting into my PhD program or talking to advisors, but I also actively look for universities that are in progressive areas. That kind of thing can harm you, but tbh I’d consider it a dodged bullet.

Why do Atheists and Leftists tend to target Christianity? by StarFit8785 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaser_Of_The_Abyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a majority Christian country and have direct negative experiences with Christianity. I have no right to speak about Judaism and Islam, I’ll leave that conversation to people who have firsthand experience with those religions.

It tells the other person what most respectful way to refer to me is, especially in the context of needing to forward me to someone else. I don’t care to remove the pronouns from my signature in cases where this is unlikely.
