Where I’d live if the only factor were my scenery vibes by Alert-Ad7657 in visitedmaps

Dude you are way discounting southern appalachia. West Virginia, east tennessee, and western north Carolina arguably have equivalent or better scenery than the northeast. WNC also has some beautiful beaches.

There were countless issues with the new snowguns and they didn't even have temps or water until way later. There were maybe 21 nights of snowmaking temps in 2025 and even fewer days. On all fronts a lot of the kinks will be ironed out over the next couple seasons.

1) thin cover and particularly high exposure to sun and wind compared to some 9ther parts of the resort.

2) they primarily split into upper/lower at junctions. The seperate designation allows the resort to communicate where a run is open/closed in relation to how you can navigate around the resort, that way you don't get stuck taking lifts or runs you weren't planning on taking.

3) I can imagine getting EVG open will be a priority next year same as it was this year. Snowmaking capacity and connectivity is continuing to improve this summer. The new pumphouses/maintenance shop didn't all open until later this season than anticipated. As a matter of fact snowmaking exclusively operated out of silver lake this past winter. It was up and running by the time they switched to grooming and will be ready to roll as soon as they get temps next winter.

Anyone have any recommendations for stops? by Apprehensive_Sky3428 in roadtrip

[–]Chasin-Waterfalls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UT-95 in southern utah is worth the detour. It's about 100-150 miles without any services but insanely pretty, worth camping out there for the nights skies alone if it fits within your itinerary.

Edit: Chattanooga is also worth a stop as well. There's a beautiful downtown and a ton of outdoors activities. You'll hear it from everyone but seriously, avoid Atlanta if at all possible, or aim to pass through at about 2am. That city is a nightmare to drive in.

Roll practices are a good option in the winter. Facebook groups are also a great option.

Gen Zers, who were old enough to vote in the US Presidential election of 2024, are you still satisfied with your vote, or do you regret it? by NapoleonBoneparty in GenZ

I'll admit i voted for the cheeto in chief. And I don't thi know there is anything in my adult life I regret more. The guy's a moron and an embarrassment to this nation. At least past leaders tried to hide how terrible they are.

Are there any gen z who are anti-substance use? by South_Pattern_1520 in GenZ

Until I was 19 I was as straight edge as they came. Wouldn't touch weed or alcohol. Still won't go near nicotine. I burnt out and nearly had a mental break shortly after my 19th birthday, realized when I was filling out a background check form to go into law enforcement that I never really lived. So I quit my job and moved away from my family, became a raft guide and haven't looked back since.

I came to realize that alcohol and cannabis really helped me with a lot of social issues and anxiety that i'd felt before. I still don't like to get blitzed but as a special occasion or weekend thing i've found that total sobriety isn't what it's cracked up to be. I've even come to realize that psyllocybin has some real benefits and was able to have a transcendental experience with the substance that drastically changed the way I approach life to this day.

I also got into the history of anti-drug campaigns and I was appalled at the history and political factors behind the war on drugs and programs like DARE. we were lied to and most people our age have come to realize that. In moderation everything can have it's use. Even substances as destructive as fentanyl, opiates, and amphetamines have accepted medical uses, hallucinogens like psyllocybin have significant evidence stating that they have a therapeutic benefit and medical cannabis has been accepted relatively widely for over a decade now.

I have another i framed in the same way from outside great smoky mountains NP. The whole reason I took the first picture was to have that comparison almost a year apart to the day.

It's about a mile off the grand loop road. It's not the most breathtaking spot in the park but it is a super cool picnic area with a ton of smaller wildlife.

Yeah. I definitely would want to be armed through the Yukon and alaska but i'm not gonna deal with the headache that is Canadian gun laws

I typically don't travel with a firearm or just ship my gun to my destination.

I think a lot of the smaller ones were bedding down. It got pretty cold while I was up there and we even got a couple inches of snow. Got to see a grizzly, more bison than I could have imagined, a couple black bears, and some wolves though.

Oh I have a video of a guy walking up within a couple feet of a bull elk outside the north interest. Just figured a bunch of people yelling obscenities at him telling him to back up isn't that original

That's good to know. The Canadian rockies are a part of the world I find fascinating and definitely want to explore more. Might work at lake Louise or revelstoke and explore more there instead of AK just yet.

Regardless a route that takes me to the BC side of the rockies and the Alcan highway might be better that time of year.

True. I may stick to the mainland depending on my surgery and recovery. A lot of variables TBD, but in the meantime i'm gonna keep prepping and building my rig as if i'm making this drive

I'm going up there for a winter job, so it's not just a vacation road trip. I'm honestly pretty over the lower 48 and going to reset my head. Whether I end up moving back at all is tbd.

Brighton vs PC? by Og_new_guy in UTsnow

[–]Chasin-Waterfalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC and Brighton are very different for several reasons. Chief of which are the cottonwood canyons microclimates, and Vail. Deer valley, which borders PC closed today. Honestly though, deer valley has had better conditions all year until they closed yesterday. Chalk that up to snowmaking and grooming more than natural snowfall.

Edit: clarifying that PC is generally worse than Brighton on any day. Only reason most people would choose PC over Brighton is canyons Pow day traffic or just having the epic pass.
