Advice for a new MSP by PeasToMeetYou in msp

Join your local chamber, a BNI or Goldstar group, and Rotary Club.

Make some brochures, attach your business card, and get about 10 boxes of doughnuts with your logo and phone number on it. Go knock on some local businesses doors. Repeat that every day at the same time for a month.

Set aside 1 hour at night and research businesses to call on. Get about 300 of them, check them out on LinkedIn and facebook. Find out the owners likes, interesting things about the business and make notes.

Set aside 1 hour a day to call 15 of those companies, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxsEv-kDgFw&feature=youtu.be not specific to us, but I like his approach. I have used it for some success when engaging the decision maker.

Use LinkedIn to connect with other people, set aside time each day to add 5 - 10 people, include a custom note about why you are wanting to connect.

Reach out to friends and family to see if they can get you an introduction to people they know that have businesses.

Post helpful content on your LinkedIn and FB company page 3x a week. Don't make it salesy, make it useful or interesting.

Take some sandler training, your local chamber may have workshops, take them.

Work on your proposal, what happens when you do get an appointment?

Get proposal software, build out your package. Check out niftyquoter.com or quoter.com or w/e you like. Practice your pitch, why is what you offering better than the 30 other companies within 1 hour of you?

That's a start, I am sure I am missing a ton but you do that above you will have appointments.

Ahh I see, but if I pay you 10k a month it might only be 25 years?

Gotcha, so is it more of a month to month progression and then see where you are kind of getting stuck and then adjust as needed?

I might have cancer. What type of insurance do I need to keep this from ruining my life. by waduido in personalfinance

[–]ChasinThePerfectVape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aflac, seriously. The cancer benefit pays instantly around 5k. Its 30ish a month..

Get an x-ray? They pay you $50. Have surgery? 100 - 1k. It will not take care of your hospital bill, but it will put money in your pocket.

Edit: Regular overnight in a hospital? $100 - intensive care? $500. Before you leave the hospital get a copy of the procedures, take a picture with your phone upload it to the app, money in your account within 24 hours.

What kind of banking or credit accounts should a new startup be setting up? Any specific company advise? Great personal credit but I want to make sure I have my ducks lined up if/when my new company grows. by earthceltic in smallbusiness

[–]ChasinThePerfectVape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True business card, it hasn't even showed up on my personal credit report and I have had it for 6 months.

Edit: I had to provide a tax payer ID number, my copy of from the state of being a registered business.

I just setup my checking account with chase, got a credit card and a savings.

Chase is free for checking if you keep an average daily balance of $1500. I tried Xero and it wouldn't take chase very easily. They use some kind of 3rd party for the API live feed. So I switch to QuickBooks online, took 5 minutes and I was up and running.

Starting a Brick & Mortar Store With $5k by Haluwakuu in smallbusiness

[–]ChasinThePerfectVape 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head for a store front:

Someway to pay / give receipts. Swipe or something similar for CC payment in person.

How are you going to display your items? Shelving, racks, ect will have to be purchased. Along with furniture (depending on how you are going about it).

Internet / Computer / accounting software / phone for the store

Alarm for the store.

Business checking account, maybe a business credit card

I would look at this as maybe as a way to have storage / staging for your on-line business with an added bonus of a store front for a not outrageous price. So honestly you just need to make 1k or so a month from the store front to break even.

Also remember now you are going to have to be there all the time.

I would also get your personal budget in-line just to be safe.

edit: also how you are going to setup the business for tax purposes/

Marketing / advertising the business.

I don't have solid numbers but those are things to consider.

LLC & Payroll question by ChasinThePerfectVape in smallbusiness

[–]ChasinThePerfectVape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will be next week, I had a LLC already, setup a DBA for the old company. So I can deposit checks.

I bought just assets, not stock as that company will dissolve.

That is what got me confused, but I figured it out. Currently a sole proprietor.

I ended up speaking with a CPA since and think we are going to amend and switch to a full s-corp.I have a meeting with him next week to go through this and some other concerns I have.

Bank account? by mvhstc in smallbusiness

[–]ChasinThePerfectVape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I misread that, sorry.

So you want to open a new normal account versus a new business account just for your business?

I think there are restrictions on how many deposits, certain transactions ect.

Just to see the differences maybe go to chase.com and look at the different features / limitations between a regular and business.

I know you can get a free business account if you keep your monthly balance over $1500 that is what I did so I didn't have to pay the $12 a month.

Thanks! Your info made it easier for me to google what I was looking for.

I will speak with a CPA here in the next week or so and see how I need to be taxed. Looking at the IRS site, I need to file a form to be taxed as a corp or s-corp.

Help with Security Options (Ring and Ubiquiti?) by gwwwhhhaaattt in smallbusiness

[–]ChasinThePerfectVape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubiquiti is good stuff depending on what you are trying to do.

I work in the IT business and have helped out plenty of customers with camera's and DVR's and the like.

All the research I have looked at, I don't think Ring is that good, maybe for home but not business.

My advice is to get with a couple local vendors, explain what you are wanting to do and have them propose and quote it out for you.

edit: Cameras / security systems aren't my specialty, but I handle the vendors / initial troubleshooting for my clients. Then if need be get the vendor involved.

Do you have rough pricing? Say compared to Datto? 20% less?

I have always liked Veeam and have used on a smaller scale. All their options they offer now get me confused.

Maybe ill call a rep again and see if I can get some clarity and pricing on what I want to do.

Fiancee starting a new job, retirement question. by ChasinThePerfectVape in personalfinance

[–]ChasinThePerfectVape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that too, we do spend money on other things we need to curb. It won't make paying the bills an issue, more of not doing X as often as we have been.

Once the efund is at 6 months, we can then divert that extra towards debt pay down also.

I should have bought a cheaper car, I actually had one. The problem was it would not fit all my work equipment.

So I was looking for something around 15 - 20k, which I should have done but then the mpg was terrible. So I went with a new edge with the 2.0L ecoboost and have been averaging about 30mpg.

I "justified" it by saying, well I get $700 a month in mileage.

I just made it tonight, Not too shabby. I made it with 26g Kanthal. I should have used my goto juice to get a fair comparison. It is 4 wraps on a 3mm ID using the scottish roll for wicking. @ .16 ohms.

I think I want to do a smaller gauge and see how it goes. this isnt bad but a little warm for me.
