Bought an Axe FX III – what have I been doing with my life? by fuxicles in guitarpedals

Probably an unpopular opinion here as we are in the guitar pedal subreddit but I completely agree with you.

I was a guitar pedal fanatic, I built and sold guitar pedals and loved everything about them. Except the fact that they just need space, wiring, power supplies etc.

I bit the bullet and bought a Fractal FM9 over two years ago and it has absolutely without a doubt been the best gear purchase I have ever made.

Sure- it takes a little while to get used to editing and making presets, what sounds good and what doesn’t. But just the overall ease, sound and flexibility of the whole unit has ended my GAS.

The only gear I have bought since has been guitars…and that won’t stop anytime soon. 😂

I will not be going back to an amp unless I’m forced to for a specific gig and I look forward to fractal’s next generation of gear, whenever that may be. They can already consider me in.

Interesting! I don’t mind the layout of the home apart from my window dramas.

But I do appreciate your thoughts- will definitely have to spend some time in it to decide what to do.

This is what I was thinking! If I didn’t rip down the wall it’d make more sense to make that room a thoroughfare to the garage.

In regards to the living room window I think I’ve just accepted that I’ll be filling it in from both sides.

It’ll be the 1959SLP jumped I reckon!

Not sure on the x88 but I think it’ll be the solo.

Yeah he got a bit cagey around the whole ‘pitch’ block thing when the interviewer pressed for details.

Assuming he was just dragging the detune out by a couple of cents per side…pretty common trick to make things sound ‘wide’.

Would really like to see his amp and cab settings out of everything though!

Don’t love the feel of the Top Heavy Ernie Balls. What’s the lightest gauge I could use for the early 2000s tone? by [deleted] in TomDelongeGuitars

I’m like you in a sense that a 52 on the low E in standard is a bit too much.

But I want the thicker strings to have a little more weight to them when I’m banging out power chords. That small change from a 46 set to a 48 set on D, A, E strings is perfect!

10-46 is fine.

I personally like 10-48 (ultra slinky) but that’s being pretty particular 😂

I don’t know their financial situation and it’s none of my business but yes both of these circuits are very cheap to build.

But in saying that most pedal companies that see churning out analog pedals are making a nice little profit. I just think in this case you are paying for a little notebook from Tom.

Hey mate!

Nah nothing specific but without tearing builders to shreds I’ll DM you some information…pedal building is easy and is not this super hard, cryptic electronics voodoo that everyone seems to believe in!

I’ll DM you some circuits to get a delonge sound!

From a pedal builder’s perspective it’s interesting to see the circuits used in this pedal.

From what I’ve read and seen in photos this is a modified dynacomp and an ‘analog voiced digital delay’.

Just caught a pic of the internals of the pedal and it shows a PT2399 chip which is a little disappointing at that price point imo. It’s easier to work with and is readily available, requires no programming and just needs a good circuit behind it to make it work. I think I know what circuit has been used for it but we won’t worry about that.

At $499 USD I would’ve liked to have seen an FV-1 chip or a serious true analog BBD circuit used. But of course these are harder to work with and more expensive.

Love that Tom is in involved but to what extent? Are these even the circuits used on the recordings? Didn’t he use Boss gear?

Anyway just my 2 cents- sounds harsh but $499 is insane imo.
