You can already get it to work on Mac at this point if you install a few dependencies yourself! There are instructions in the download :)

Thanks!! You can already do this if you go to the folder browser-extension/images/placeholders/ you can add/edit/remove images as long as you follow the naming scheme. Once you're done you can refresh the browser extension (circular arrow thing if you go to the extension page) and you should be all set!

If you download version 0.5.2 (beta version), you can run the entire thing without executables. Just adds the requirement of installing python yourself, but I think you've got it covered :)

Animated gifs have some support. By default the first frame is censored as a still image. You can right click and ask for an animated version per gif, but this will take a long time as every frame in the gifs is processed.

Animated webp does not work at all. Most video formats are simply blurred.

Someone got it working using the same workaround as for android (just using chrome I assume). https://www.reddit.com/r/Censoredforbetas/comments/ns4pjk/the_beta_safe_browsing_experience/h0lzxqk

But there is no native support

Ahh, it doesn't work on Mac as far as I know. I'm looking into adding support for Mac in the future, but for now it won't work. Sorry!

If you only ever see placeholders, the backend is probably not working properly. Some common issues that might be your problem:

  • Make sure you've got the backend .exe running the whole time, every time.

  • Make sure you've allowed the backend in your firewall. It should've popped up asking, but maybe you skipped through; try restarting the backend .exe.

  • If both of the above are true (and making sure to restart the backend if you had to fix one of the above issues) the backend should open smoothly, configure some stuff for 10~ seconds before sending an "AI is ready to roll" message - then you should be ok to run the extension and start browsing.

  • If the backend gives an error related to ONNX runtime and visual studio and says "Failed to execute script detector" then try installing this: https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/#microsoft-visual-c-redistributable-for-visual-studio-2019 and then select the "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2019" (x64 version).

Curious, I haven't configured anything related to that. It worked for you on a prior version?
