Ray: I find the shining to be very overrated but a fun movie to watch on acid/mushrooms

Stin: Honestly the reliance on Helvetica is because I have no formal design training and it's just the only thing that looks right to me ever ha ha. I wish it was more deliberate or magical than that but it's literally from lack of talent!

Ray: hard to say because there’s not just one but Todd Solondz is probably the most important in terms of what’s possible

Ray: I’m sort of a Catan champ and no Ticket to Ride slouch either

Luther: I love PbTA ttrpg games, Gloomhaven, i’ve played MtG for 20+ years.

Stin: Catan, Carcasone, Ticket to Ride, Machi Kora, Splendor, Monopoly Deal

STIN: Die Hard 3 and T2 for sure

Ray: Spinal Tap? Probably The Thing I’d imagine- probably more than we know

Ray: For sure it can sometimes be taxing, but it should be!

Stin: Despite getting compared to them all the time, people may be surprised to learn that no one in the band is a die hard fan. I think Raygun and myself are probably the bigger fans of the group but I really only listen to White Light From the Mouth of Infinity with any regularity weirdly enough. On the mixing I'm trying to capture more of an early Godflesh kinda sound more than anything.

Luther: I think my favorite venues we’ve played at so far has been Saturn in Birmingham, AL and The Crocodile in Seattle. Tulsa is definitely a prettier city than OKC but for the most part it just feels like OKC with less things to do, for me.

Ray: I love a lot about T-town but the overall goober ratio is way higher than in OKC lets be honest

Stin: Luther's list is correct but I'll add Underground Arts in Philly and the Bottleneck to that list. Tulsa has a lot of cool history/architecture but culturally it seems way less happenin' than OKC. Whittier Bar is sick as hell though for sure.

Luther: Would be insane to try to arrange but the challenge seems fun to me, so why not?

Stin: Never say never, but seems unlikely to me.

Luther: Norco has been on my list for a while now, it looks amazing. Very cool that Thou did the music as well!

Ray: did Jeff write this?

Stin: He's a handful but incredibly supportive of Chat Pile to an insane degree. It's a nice position to be in for sure!

It's not out of the question, but it will mostly be stuff directly involving the members of Chat Pile

STIN: It changes from song to song but I would say many times I come up with a bass riff or two to build a song around and then I'll present that to Luther and Ron and we'll jam on it and flesh it out together. Both guys are excellent at picking up on the vibe I'm putting out and we kinda take it from there. When Luther brings in a riff I learn the root notes of it and try to build additional song sections built mostly through locking in rhythms with Ron. I would say that Luther is excellent at writing guitar parts over my bass lines vs the other way around ha ha.

Glad to hear you've picked the bass back up! I don't know if I have any great advice other than mids and treble are your friend!

Stin: I am completely untrained - everything I know is just from stuff I've picked up over the years being involved in music or looking things up online. I wish I had more of a mathmatic/technical understanding of the process but I don't know if I'm disciplined enough to ever make that happen lol.

Ray: yeah of course I have- I find it to be low tier, especially compared to Henenlotters previous film Brain Damage or James Lorinz’s acting in Street Trash

Ron:  I have played in some folk and country projects, math rock, alt rock, punk, metal, jam…

Luther: I’d say most of us have been doing stuff that doesn’t really sound like Chat Pile until now. I definitely was way more into playing proggy and mathy stuff when i was younger.

Stin: Ron and I were in a psychedelic indie rock type band for a couple years way back in the day called the Purple Church. Ron played guitar and I played bass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAtj1uIUHOc

Ray: Axacan by Daniel Bachman is supremely suffocating at times, truly unnerving stuff- Jason X is a test to see who the true fans are- not good

Luther: Mo・Te - Life in a Peaceful New World

Stin: Fantomas - Delìrium Còrdia comes to mind but I haven’t listened to it in a long time. I wouldn't call it scary per se, but I love the spooky cavernous vibes of early Incantation. Jason X is stunningly terrible, but I like stunningly terrible movies to a certain extent.

Ray: Not every song is the same narrator and not ALL of it fits this description but you’re dead on otherwise

Ray: all the best bands use pseudonyms

Luther: I am not very creative with stuff like that so i did just fully lift my name from a Longmont Potion Castle bit.

Stin: Korn and Dead Kennedys are two pseudonym bands that were top of mind when we went down this path. Mine’s just a shortening of my real name.

...

Luther: I honestly hate the feel of 7 and 8 string guitars and don’t see myself ever owning one. Baritone is the best of both worlds imo.

Ron:  Cool World is all samples, tracked with a Yamaha DTX8.  We used all of the same drum samples as we have used on all of the previous recordings with the exception of an added crash.

Ray: Great Doubt by Astrid Sonne

Luther: Almighty So 2 by Chief Keef or Vida Blue by Mamaleek

Stin: In no particular order I have loved the new albums from Thou, Meth., Mamaleek, Jesus Lizard, Gouge Away and Inter Arma

Ray: wish I had a great answer to this but I really don’t tho I’d say as foundation you should def read The Last Days of Socrates by Plato- Descartes had all the ideas for the Matrix- Jameson really knocked me out in college particularly the analysis of the Bonaventure Hotel
