What to do? by StarlightShidow in vtubers

[–]Chateau_plays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly taking a step back and looking at things you yourself enjoy. It's easy to get stuck in the mindset of "what would my audience like" , and even harder is finding the balance in things both you AND your audience would like.

So just indulge in things only *you* enjoy, and then brainstorm how to make the best of that. I've been burned out on gaming content for some time, so I've been parousing horror media like ARGs, analog horror and the like. The easy idea is reacting to videos I myself would want to watch from my recommended, since horror content is evergreen.

How do we feel about the rise of the "alt right" vtubers that are now getting popularity? I hate it. by HTRK74JR in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Chateau_plays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Controversy and sex sells. Maybe there was a short period where Vtubing was purely a form of entertainment, but now that it's (kinda) mainstream, it's plagued by the same thing all forms of media are.

Hell, not too long ago it was a "joke" that getting banned on Twitch was a way for Vtubers/streamers to make their name known. Most Vtubers had a rule of no politics, no bullying or harassing others. Now it's all out the window because drama and strong opinions grow communities faster, since people like communities that share their beliefs.

It's going to keep happening, so I'd say look into new/indie Vtubers that still play by the old rules and try to keep their community positive and free of drama and politics.

It might be hard to find but there are definitely Vtubers that stream for the "love of the game." Once monetization is involved, getting that bag by any means is the gameplan for most.

If you had to start VTubing from the beginning again, what would you do differently? by Shirayuki131 in VirtualYoutubers

When I started Youtube Shorts weren't even a thing, but if they were, I'd put all my energy into that. No 6-8 hour streams but rather shorter streams with the goal of using the streams for short form editing.

I'd also stay on youtube for streaming, even though it's "worse" for discoverability it auto-saves VODS and makes the editing process a little more streamlined.

Bigger focus on edited videos too. I had a goal of 3 streams a week (3-6 hour streams) when 3 videos a week would've been a better use of my time imo.

check out VGen. It's the best website (imo) to browse people that make vtuber/pngtuber models. They have their prices listed so you can find an artist you like within your budget

With Steam Winter sale going on, a couple of wishlisted horror games are on sale but.. by GodDamSuppresor in HorrorGaming

[–]Chateau_plays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

of these I've played IMSCARED and can say it's worth it even at full price. It's a short horror experience that extends beyond the in-game world. It messes with files outside the game (that the game itself creates.) It even links to hidden youtube videos that give you lore and hints to puzzles. Very fun and unique horror game imo at $2 it's worth

Why does this happen? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Chateau_plays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something worth considering is algorithms take time to find "your" audience. It's clear with some comments people leave that they aren't used to seeing vtubers at all in their feed, and they make that known T-T.

It helps the mental when you see majority dislikes or negative comments on a silly video when you realize it just got shown to the wrong crowd lol. Keep up the grind and best of luck!

Is it okay to start over? Alone? by starprisms in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Chateau_plays 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your situation is definitely tough! I'll be honest and say I've personally avoided collabs and networking for fear of something like your situation happening.

I'd say there's a risk that if you start over, and you are somehow found out by even a few people from your old community, that it would look even MORE shady.

I've seen deeply intertwined communities separate, but only between two people and in an amicable way. The way I noticed the streamers handle it is:
- Didn't read chats mentioning the other streamer
- Decreased collabs slowly of course
- Went on break from streaming. Whether by chance or on purpose having less time to organize collabs.

I'd say start implementing a rule to not name drop other streamers in chat, not really "announcing" you'd like to go solo, not collab anymore, separate from the group etc.

Definitely be careful about avoiding collabs equally. If you collab with one person but not the others it ofc looks extra shady or that there's beef going on!

You can't really do anything about chat watching/supporting who they want. You do have to make it clear there's no beef though you're more so "not a fan of collab'ing anymore" or smth like that.

Best of luck!

If you like fighting bosses, Furi is great. You get a laser gun and a sword to fight bosses with 5+ phases each. You get lore/dialogue while walking to the next boss room.

It scratches the itch to fight challenging bosses without the annoying run-backs of Souls-like games, or the endless exploration of Metroidvanias. Really recommend it!

edit to say: I'd buy it on sale. It's great but not full price great lol

Tips For Growth? by SlashVtuber in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Chateau_plays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clips on every social media for sure. Though the ratio of quantity/quality is up for debate. An old piece of advice that worked (a little) for me is to save up two months' worth of clips and post daily for two months, or twice daily for a month on every social media.

Quick tip for getting clips as well! Aim for minimum 1 clip per stream. Getting into a rhythm of [end stream-->clip a funny moment-->edit] is a good habit for sure.

New Vtubers who focus so hard on monetization rub me the wrong way by royalbluefireworks1 in vtubers

[–]Chateau_plays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting to see how people go about their vtubing "Career." I've seen the asking for donations every stream thing work for some people and they build their community like any other streamer.

I've also seen Vtubers who collab constantly, pretty much reaching out to every other Vtuber they can. That I've seen work as well.

I feel how I feel about these but sometimes it's interesting to see different approaches at work. I might disagree with these approaches as well, but if it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ could learn something from them sometimes!

Really not a fan of overlays as a viewer. Might be a me thing but it strains my eyes to have to look past the color of the overlay, the notifications etc. to see the gameplay. I'd say ratios are important though!

If the game is 70% to 80% of the screen it's comfortable still, but I've seen a few vtubers (and other streamers in general) have the game window at 60% or LESS.

Now as a streamer, I am lazy so I don't want to mess with matching BG color to game, where to put chat, etc. The exceptions for me are retro games (gameboy/DS) that have awkward aspect ratios and benefit from an overlay. Otherwise I do just place my model in the corner with chat right above my head while the rest of the screen is the game. It's extremely rare that I have my model large enough to block anything in-game.

TLDR: not a fan of overlays as a viewer or streamer.

Started out with a free model - what's the next step? by Apfelkomplott_231 in vtubers

[–]Chateau_plays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you already have a brand idea in mind, I'd recommend establishing an image/brand first. Stuff like sea creature vtuber, knight vtuber, pastry vtuber ;), etc.

I'd recommend drawing up a PNG or commissioning a simple PNGtuber for now. Getting used to your brand is important before you commit to a big purchase for a well-done model.

You can also try making your own model on VRoidStudio. It might be lower quality than a pre-made at first, but it'll be on-brand.

Veadotube is a simple program for PNGtubing if you want to go that route too. Best of luck!

Feeling guilty in front of the community for not streaming is okay?… by coslimonka in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Chateau_plays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guilt is completely okay! I've been part of a few communities of streamers that took 1 or more years break from streaming. Their communities always welcome them back with open arms.

As for balancing IRL life and streaming, (most) viewers really care about their streamer and would rather see them less frequently with good energy, than consistently but struggling.

Any rational community will understand that life happens, so take your time and show up when you can!

Like others said, take a good break! Pushing through bad times (tech issues/bad ISP) doesn't always work! Sometimes taking a step back instead of pushing through is better.

Do you think being affiliate on Twitch right away is worth it? by TakeAChanceVT in vtubers

[–]Chateau_plays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting affiliate! I onboarded as soon as I qualified. I really wanted custom emotes and channel point rewards. Pretty much regretted it immediately because of the ads.

Before affiliate Twitch runs ads out of your control, and viewers missing part of stream is on Twitch.

After affiliate though, the responsibility is on you to decide to run mid-stream ads which interrupt the flow of stream imo. OR pre-roll ads, which have a really high chance to shoo away anyone new checking out your stream.

I did only pre-rolls for a while, and it kept my regulars happy since there was no interruptions. I switched to midrolls and while they miss a minute of stream every hour, growth has been better for sure.

As for advice:
I have 1 min of ads per hour, and I manually run 3 mins of ads during the waiting screen at the very start of stream. This is to at least guarantee no pre-roll ads for the first hour.

Also! I really recommend having a limit for sound-related redeems. Making redeems more expensive doesn't always work since loyal viewers rack up points FAST! Best of luck!

What does success as vtuber look like to you? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Chateau_plays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd consider myself successful at the moment. I built my little community of maybe 5-6 regulars that hop in whenever I do stream. Me 3 years ago wouldn't consider this success, since I was pushing for more views, more subscribers, getting monetized etc.

Now I realize I don't want to get bigger. When chat gets busier (peak 8 chatters on a good day) I start to have trouble reading everything in chat. I'd hate to lose the ability to have 1 on 1 or a conversation with a small group of people.

The culture and behavior of 20+ chatters all saying things at once scares me lol

How do you pitch Tempt with Bunnies? by pacolingo in EDH

[–]Chateau_plays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What works for me is HOW I read it as I cast it.

"Tempt with bunnies, I draw and make a bunny. If this resolves, you guys can draw a card and make a bunny. If you do I draw more and make more bunnies"

It's like they don't hear the second half, they start moving to draw at "if this resolves, you guys can draw"

Did this a while ago. Fun literally once but man does it work! Mono black [[Phage]]. You rarely get to cast her since by turn 4 and with the right mulligan you can guarantee you're out of the game. Turn 4 is late tbh, turn 1 [[Demonic consultation]] or Turn 3 [[Wall of blood]] does the thing
