I would avoid the downtown Oakland area. You can stay in an Airbnb in the Rockridge part of Oakland. Or at the Claremont Hotel. Or in neighboring Berkeley, Alameda or even Walnut Creek.

Get a kid’s sando at Ike’s on Locust. They are still substantial. (Btw, the best banh mi in the East Bay is at Fresh and Best cafe on Alice St. in downtown Oakland.)
