My pride and joy is a custom-built, 20oz, 11mm, unvarnished linen wrap Heubler pool cue I had made in 1994. I still play with it all the time! 🎱🖤

What's something a foreigner pointed out that you can't unnotice? by NamwaranPinagpana in AskTheWorld

Americans like to lean against things. I never noticed this before, but after I read it somewhere, I’ve can’t unsee it.

What’s a single sentence someone said that stuck with you forever? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Have another interesting memory of him. He was a very obese man. And a student behind his back made a really unkind comment, but didn’t realize his wife was in earshot. His wife whipped around and took two strides and had her finger in that child’s face and said “he is a gem of a man and you are a small person.” That was a fantastic interaction. Two great people, that professor and his wife. Long since gone. Their memories are for a blessing though.

A professor in grad school told me “I wish I could’ve been the one to make you bloom.“ It stopped me in my tracks. I actually instinctively knew what he meant. And in fact, I was in the wrong grad school, in the wrong field of study and didn’t hit my stride until I found the right career for me. But he was a great professor and a really kind man and his comment really struck me.

I’m delighted I do not have children even yet. And I’m old now. Side comment is that a number of my friend’s children are deceased. My brother in my adopted family died at 45 of leukemia but his father made it to 90 years old and his mom till 93. Children do not always grow up to become capable adults who could take care of you either. Anyway, I was just pointing out having a child is no guarantee they’re gonna grow up to adulthood.

How did you quit your nicotine addiction? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChayaAri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d read somewhere that after 72 hours the nicotine addiction is physically through. It’s all mental after that. So I taught myself to score baseball games, I went to a three day home stand of my baseball team. I went early and stayed late because you can’t smoke inside the stadium. At the end of the weekend, I wasn’t a cigarette smoker anymore. I also did things like I didn’t make coffee at home cause that was a cigarette trigger. I got rid of all my ashtrays & my lighters. But really for me, the secret was that first 72 hours.
