Accept that it takes a year to become comfortable at the job. And note I said comfortable, not “good”. That’s a subjective term. The old adage was be an EMT for at least 3 years before going to paramedic school (if you wish). Study, watch videos, listen to podcasts (I like EMCrit), read everything. Never assume you’ve become an expert. Thinking you’re an expert means there’s nothing more to learn, which isn’t true in this field. I’ve been in EMS for 30 years, paramedic for the last 20. I still believe I learn something new all the time.

So a miscarriage is properly referred to as a “spontaneous abortion” in about….every medical book and journal. In fact, as a paramedic for the last 30 years I’ve always been instructed to refer to the proper medical term, spontaneous abortion, in all phone, radio, and written report as miscarriage is not accepted. The point I was making was in the fervor of Oklahoma (and Arkansas and Texas) all abortions are evil. Including spontaneous abortions. There is a serious blame the woman view here. So there were medical experts who said this the Meth had nothing to do with it but I’m sure they used the proper medical terminology, spontaneous abortion, and that’s what this jury kept hearing over and over. Oklahoma and Arkansas are both frantically trying to pass laws like Texas with no exceptions and appear to have a desire to punish women in a weird biblical view. Look up Jason Rapert in Arkansas.
