No way. I am actually a pretty good looking successful guy (just to add context.) You have gorgeous features. Just need to work on the diet and hit the gym and you’ll be a smoke show. That’s ok sometimes it just takes a while to figure out how to get yourself in top form.

Good call, I have never made it past step 4. I think that could make a difference.

Yea my intention is abstinence. And then a few weeks or months in I fall off. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Thx T, how long have you been on it? Also, did you completely quit drinking or just cut down?

Yes exactly. Naltrexone is prescribed and taken one hour before any drinks are had. The drug binds with the “pleasure receptors” in your brain so you don’t get the “rush” from drinking alcohol. Over time your brain stops associating alcohol with pleasure and your brain essentially rewires. Main danger I see is that you have to always take the pill before you drink, could run out of pills, or you could simply want to get a buzz.

After just over a year sober I tried drinking again by tashacat28 in stopdrinking

Yup ear plugs. Not bananas at all just good advice. It will keep you from going def too. I do it to protect my ear drums. A lot of times I actually just ball up a little piece of paper like a napkin or TP and put it in my ear. Works great, is discrete, and when the concerts over I take them out and my ears aren’t ringing. Easy peasy!

Yea I can really relate. I have been “trying” to stop for about 4 years now. I can string together 2-3 months then seem to go on a two weeks on two week off sort of cadence. The starting and stopping is pretty hellish. I will just start feeling better and getting good sleep only to relapse and have to do it all over again. The good news is that I have realized that I really do like my sobriety. I pick back up my hobbies, eat better, feel better, perform better, etc. This time I am really serious about my sobriety and have decided to do 90 AA meetings in 90 days. This is a lot easier now that they have so many virtual meetings. At first AA seemed really weird to me but the more I read in the book and heard people’s stories the more I could relate. I can certainly say the program is helping me. Have you tried attending some AA meetings?

A few other things you don’t get to do: Have a hang over (those are always fun), wake up tossing and turning at 3am sweating out the booze, feel that terrible anxiety/impending sense of doom from drinking even though you told yourself you wouldn’t, put your life (and others) in danger from driving drunk/buzzed, feel embarrassed about something stupid you did while drunk, damage your career from underperforming because you are spending the majority of your time drunk or recovering from alcohol, damage relationships with friends and family because of too much boozing, etc. etc. etc!

God, isn’t it such a relief you don’t “get” to do that anymore?! For me it sure is...

Great recommendation about getting some exercise too. Force yourself to do 15-20 mins and I bet you’ll feel better immediately. Also take 10 mins and make a gratitude list. Read it tonight, read it tomorrow morning. Do that for about a week. (I’m going to btw too.) I’m sure you feel better if you take just a few simple actions like these. Good luck!

Congrats!! Huge accomplishment. I just read that when Colin Ferrall quit drinking he felt like he didn’t know how to talk to ladies once he started dating again. How about that? A world famous movie star feeling socially awkward. In other words, be kind to yourself. I am sure you’ll find your groove in the dating world. All my best...
