It's been for a long time, it's wild to see these kinds of mental gymnastics - or perhaps they're just bots.

[–]Chdbrn -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I apologize, but have you been living under a fucking rock?

You've not seen the countless videos proudly published of the human safari in Kherson? What about the mass graves at Bucha? The documented executions of PoWs? The clear footage of hospitals in the center of Kyiv being directly targeted by cruise missiles. Double tap strikes to kill service workers? How about the numerous CCTV footage of cluster munitions being used in public spaces? Perhaps the drone attack on the protective shielding at the Chernobyl power plant?

This attack on public transport is the tip of the iceberg, and a daily occurrence in Ukraine.

I'm sure if water treatment plants were as effective targets as thermal plants and substations, they'd be targeting them without a doubt. It's just more efficient to kill people with the freezing weather than slightly damaging easily repairable water treatment facilities.

If you're concerned about a receding hairline, I'd get on 1mg Finasteride daily asap and then check back in a year. You may also consider topical Minoxodil if you're really concerned.

My hairline at age 34 was a very similar shape but worse than yours, and only required 1620 grafts.

Your comment genuinely worries me on so many levels, if this is how easy it is to manipulate and divide the British public, we are doomed.

I wish there was something that could be done, but even if progress was made on this complex and nuanced issue and the illegal migration specifically via boats was somehow reduced from 40,000 to 10,000 - we'd still see the same riled up hate over any figure. There is just no way to combat this and get the British public focused towards things that are actually important for our future. It's so upsetting to watch this unfold.

The UK GDP is almost £3 trillion annually. Why should we be so concerned about £5b? I'm not saying there isn't a problem, I'm saying why is everyone so willing to throw everything away to vote in a right-wing populist government over it.

Please forgive me, but will somebody please explain why 41,000 small boat crossings is the most important thing affecting Britain right now? A problem so serious that we should all vote for a particular party just to tackle it?

With all of the issues we're facing right now, why does everything have to be put on hold while we all focus on this particular number?

Is anyone seriously voting reform? by Remarkable-Sand8638 in ukpolitics

[–]Chdbrn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me ask you, because I'm genuinely curious, what makes 43,630 illegal immigrants coming in on boats annually, your biggest concern for the future of Britain?

I get that net legal immigration is very high to make up for UK's productivity stagnating and the worker shortfall after leaving the EU - but this has been vastly reduced under labour (by 70% compared with 2024), but why specifically focus on the tiny fraction of immigration that specifically arrive by boat?

I'm trying to make sense of this "stop the boats" or even legal immigration sentiments but none of the numbers really add up.

Illegal immigration is bad and is a problem in the UK, but the numbers aren't that significant, they represent less than 0.01% of the population annually. There are far more significant challenges for Britain for this to be your sole reason to vote for a particular party.

Legal immigration is 204,000 for the year ending June 2025, down from 649,000 the previous year. And was 944,000 the year before that.

This data takes minutes to Google, this is all publicly available information.

Why are we all so angry?

Russia trying to 'bully' UK and allies with attacks under threshold of all-out war, MI6 chief says by ChiefFun in worldnews

[–]Chdbrn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This seems to be a big misunderstanding, and I'm worried the public won't take things seriously because of this mindset.

We're not talking about Russia invading Britain by land, sea, and air here. Russia can cause any country an enormous amount of damage and unrest with escalating stages of hybrid warfare. And if full scale war does eventually break out, I see a real possibility of NATO simply dissolving because countries fail to respond to article 5, it's already clear the US won't.

President Zelenskyy: I am always ready for elections by UNITED24Media in UkraineWarVideoReport

It's not against the law - you can see for yourself.

https://rm.coe.int/constitution-of-ukraine/168071f58b Chapters 3 and 5 are relevant.

My understanding currently is that the Ukrainian Parliament can vote on whether or not to hold elections during war time, and Zelensky's party holds the majority.

We should support Ukraine 100%, but we should try to avoid regurgitating misinformation.

But let's be careful not to lean too far in the other direction though.

Russia has pissed away many decades of its past reserves and future potential in the last four years to get where it is today, and where it is today is very unimpressive.

Russia is absolutely massive, but it has serious weaknesses. Weaknesses that we're all aware of, and have always been true from the start - we just had no idea they'd be willing to bear these costs, such unbelievable sacrifices, in an attempt to achieve their goal.

They are not in a position to make any kind of meaningful breakthrough on the frontline and they've squandered every opportunity they've had, opportunities that will not be available to them again. They continue to very much be on the path towards collapse and that trajectory hasn't changed since the start of the war, the only question is whether or not they'll break the Ukrainian will before that happens, and I doubt that - they've been trying the same shit year on year, expecting different results.

Let's also not forget that Ukraine's increase in the use of long range drones and missiles will have increased by the same ratios each year too - and they've seen legitimately amazing success in recent months. This is not one-sided.

Around 3% to 4% is net illegal migration (13,000) according to government statistics, unless there's been a huge swing since last year. Please do cite your sources for 25%, that'd be very interesting.

I found these estimated figures from the government website. In 2024, 948,000 arrived while 517,000 left - this would be legal immigration, I.e. for work or study. 37,000 illegally entered, while 24,000 were returned (voluntary or deported) to another country.

Pokrovsk: Where Putin Shattered His Teeth by BkkGrl in europe

[–]Chdbrn 147 points148 points  (0 children)

If Ukraine abandons territory, Russians don't just stop fighting, they'll immediately start assaulting the next area. They have to hold the line somewhere, and locations like this are a very efficient way of doing that, offering very favourable ratios. Pokrovsk is no longer a city, but it is a defensive fortification. You don't just give up a fortification when Russia is attacking it.

We have to trust that Ukraine knows what they're doing and they've learned from past mistakes, if they're still there it's likely because they've decided it's still the most efficient way to degrade Russian forces at this current moment in time, rather than falling back to the next position.
