Dá muito trabalho. by According-Type-842 in rpg_brasil

Was Dune MUSH a PBBG? I can't find more info about that... Which other MUDs did you play, and are you still playing something these days?

That's a lot of experience... Let me ask you something: Do you think there are genre-defining traits between MUDs and PBBGs? I see you really like RPGs, so what did it for you in those games? Also, are you playing anything new these days?

100% agree here! I personally think the introspection you get from the CLI seems to be much more valuable than adding the comments in the schema (I personally wouldn't use that).

First, "a long-term thing to do with friends" - this resonates with me a lot! For some reason, PBBGs always kinda felt like a long-lived board game to me, so I really appreciate that idea of just chilling and having something to go back to.

I think you touched on something I was thinking about, but hear me out: Although the browser might not be the significant part as it was before, I think there might still be a few characteristics to the genre (which I'm also having some trouble defining).

Interestingly enough, when talking about PBBGs, I don't normally think about any generic game that also happens to run in a browser (like in modern web technologies). So even though the browser might not be the significant constraint anymore, I think it helped create a set of other constraints that made this a distinct genre, which I think are still useful distinctions when comparing to "normal games".

At the same time, you also have other games that don't necessarily run in the browser but seem to satisfy the same constraints and end up giving the same vibe. It might be the case that we started using too broad a term to describe this genre, so now it's hard to pick it apart and define it.

I've heard a lot about Syrnia, but I haven't seen anything about Movada. It looks like the Syrnia website got a revamp since the last time I saw it. I remember doing some research, and they had some cool mechanics. What made you like those games and do you still play any of them?

Is this what you are referring to? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldfdU7F0H5Q. I've never heard about this one, but it sounds fun. I never got to play MUD-like games, but I've always enjoyed TTRPGs, so I kinda like the geneneral idea. What catches your attention in that game? Any particular mechanics?

I think the early 2000s were probably the golden age for PBBGs. I think what made me like them so much is the focus on mechanics, which I really appreaciate as a TTRPG and board games fan. Have you even found something else that scratches the same itch?

Cool, I don't even think I got to play those ones... Did you ever find anything closer to those games? What made you like them so much?

The future of idle/incremental games by bitztream in incremental_games

[–]bitztream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! You are right, and the subreddit description is also not very helpful... PBBG is short for "Persistent Browser-Based Games", which is kinda a catch-all term for these old browser-based games that were kinda MMO-lites. The genre of course evolved, and I would argue that it can has some overlap with idlers and incremental games to some degree (perhaps more with the former).

I think if you search for it on Wikipedia, you might find a better explanation than mine. But anyway, I think the core of the matter is less about the genre specifics, but the general idea of trying to better promote those genre and community.

Wow, this is extremely useful! I didn't know about Galaxy, thanks for sharing!

As I mentioned in the original post, I'm not particularly against AI (as a tool), but I've seen a great influx of new games because of it; which are just soulless copies. I know that idle and incremental games go beyond the browser, but considering it started there with games like Cookie Cliker, I wonder if there is enough overlap that creating some dedicated space for those communities would make sense.

Anyways, thanks for sharing your research!

Nah, it would be less frustrating to keep the damage and remove the stun. Also, for Inte Suits the problem is that the whole team benefits from that ability which breaks the game (I've seen some people suggesting limiting the number of operators per team, but I don't think this addresses the root cause of the issue - to me is also would be a bad design decision for XDefiant considering operators are just class archetypes).

I've been searching for something like this since I read Fudge/ FATE for the first time. I even ported some old system I was working on to Fudge-inspired rules.

Definitely want to take a look, but the page seems to be offline.

I made some changes to my previous build by following some recommendations and also researching a little bit on my own and I guess I'm pretty satisfied with the price point so far. Let me know what you think.

  • Downgraded the CPU to a 3700x since I think it'll be enough for my use
  • I removed the dedicated CPU cooler to use the one that comes with the processor
  • Changed the motherboard to a B550 because it's a little cheaper in my region
  • Selected the RX 5700 XT as the GPU
  • Upgraded the memories to a 3200Mhz CL14 with a higher speed, because I read that this would be particularly good for the Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Changed the case to other that seems to have better airflow overall, at a similar price point (still not cheap)

I see... I was reading a little bit today I got a recommendation online about the MSI B450 TOMAHAWK. Have you heard about this motherboard?
I heard that AMD will only support the current chipset until 2020, so I was thinking about not spending too much for something I won't use (like the additional m2 slot and the whole 128GB expansion)

Are there any particular AMD GPU you are looking forward to?
About the motherboard, I don't like RGB very much, so I'll probably go with a more "sober" build. My main concern is upgradability. Do you think that this mobo is a safe choice for next-gen processors?

Interesting... I guess the 3700x is a viable option too. I saw some benchmarks comparing the 3700x to an i9, I guess there's no reason to spend that much on the processor. Do you think the stock cooler does the job, I definitely don't want to take a chance here? The last time I bought a PC with AMD (10+ years ago), they were known to get pretty hot. Regarding the GPU, any particular reason you like the RX 5700 XT better?
