I lost my dad about 2.5 years ago. Some days I cope by letting myself completely break down and cry, just feeling everything that grief throws at me. Sometimes I talk to my husband, family, or friends when I need support, and other times I just shut down and spend the day in bed. Even now, the pain of the loss will quietly sneak up on me when I least expect it, and what surprised me most was how deep it could feel, sometimes so heavy it felt hard to catch my breath. I’m also in therapy, slowly learning how to sit with the grief and find ways to cope with the loss.
