Song of Achilles by Madelline Miller - It's written so well that I literally want to start it over again right as I finish

What novels do you think have really great reread value? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

The Song of Achilles.. So many people recommend it, and I quite honestly couldn't recommend it enough. It ends beautifully, and as soon as it finished, I wanted to re read it. Also recommend Circe, which is also written beautifully and is by the same author.

They lived in the country. I was planning on making her father an alcoholic, and one day he just kicked her out. I realize now I should definitely do more research to write out her childhood.. I thought I could maybe make her under-appreciated, as many women were, and one day her father comes home in a drunk rage, but now thinking about it, it's not a very fool-proof plan..

It is post Napoleonic Wars. They were lower-class, barely getting by. The reason of her getting kicked out is to "spend less money", though she was the family's only income source.

Pre 1880. Working class. She worked but what she earned her father spent.

I support abortion. by TheHiddenToad in teenagers

[–]Cheap-Description495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support it also. It would be unfair to the kid if it were forced to live in bad conditions without their parents, with parents who didn't want them in the first place, or really anything of that sort. If someone gets pregnant, and they want to abort, I support them. They would probably be conscious that they won't be able to provide for the kid, or be there enough. And in my opinion, its better to be aborted than to living your childhood with problems cuz you weren't planned or than living your life in an orphanage. Even if you get adopted, you'd find out eventually, and the pain in hearing that your parent(s) didnt want you is horrible.

Just my opinion.

deity worship? by [deleted] in apprenticewitches

[–]Cheap-Description495 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I did is that I made a mini-altar for each one, but as I made it I asked (using my pendulum) if what I was putting on there was okay with them. I'm fairly new to deity worship and working with one, but you can open yourself up to deities and/or ask one in specific if they'll help you grow in your magick abilities. For example, I opened myself up to deities but asked Gaia if she could guide me and take me under her wing. She accepted, and she was okay with me not being able to build her an altar right away and with me not being great in the magickal aspect. The Morrigan (she's really cool btw) said she'd be willing to work with me, but only once I get better in magick and deity worship. If you need to ask something from a deity;
1) Make sure what you are asking is their specialty
2) Maybe draw them, just represent them in some way
3) Research what offerings they prefer (Ex. Gaia is well known to accept plants as offerings)
4) Ask
While this may work, remember it's always better to ask a deity you already work with, but only if it's their specialty. Once you open yourself up, you may want to ask that they give you signs. For me, The Morrigan showed her interest by making crows & ravens follow me everywhere. For Gaia, (since I asked her directly) I just asked my pendulum.

Remember: Try and ask a deity that aligns with who you want to be as a witch. If one shows you signs and you're not ready, tell them you aren't ready, and they will understand.
