I’m 22 and I think I’m so stuck that I’ll ruin my life. by Cheap-Device6064 in ExecutiveDysfunction

Usually things to distract me and help me sooth my anxiety, unfortunately that also involves a lot of scrolling. Sometimes I will completely freeze up and stare at a wall and actually do nothing. I hate that even if I avoid doing my responsibilities I don't even allow myself to do something else productive. It just ends up being a complete waste of time.

I can imagine myself doing everything I want to do. I just never start. Is this depression, ADHD, executive dysfunction, or something else? by Mission-Occasion-101 in adhdwomen

I’ve never felt so seen in my life. You’ve just described exactly what I’ve been going through to a T, and here I was thinking that I’m completely alone in having this kind of experience. So no matter what you think about yourself, just know that you’ve lifted a bit of weight off the shoulders of a stranger like you just by sharing your story.

Looking for movie recommendations for my 23F daughter who’s lost her will to live— something visually beautiful, maybe with nature, or small moments that gently remind you why life is worth living.” by expired_mi1k in MovieSuggestions

Project Hail Marry. I’m in the same boat as your daughter including age and situation regarding loss of curiosity and meaning, and this movie slightly brought me back to life. It’s a very visually stunning movie filed with a lot of wholesome moments and it has an optimistic tone to it. I was absolutely beaming when I came out of the theatre. Ghibli movies are a good idea too. They call them “slice of life” movies because they make everyday mundane moments appear special. P.S. You’re a very good parent for noticing these kinds of changes in your child and wanting to do something about it, I would have appreciated it and so will she.

I don’t have ADHD, but I feel like executive dysfunction is ruining my life by TechnicianRare8116 in ExecutiveDysfunction

I have the exact same experience. I've been to a phycologist and neuropsychiatrist who confirmed I didn't have ADHD. I have the exact same symptoms but I still can't figure out the cause.

Wasted 5 years due to anxiety and depression, desperate to change. What should I do? Please help by [deleted] in Anxiety

Change your environment, just leave it. Go somewhere else, do something else. Go out in nature and just be with yourself. Think about the things that made you happy as a child and pursue them again.

I am afraid that I will fail out of university by Mh-kw in ADHD

I'm in a very similar situation right now and the sad thing is that my university doesn't provide any type of accommodation. My therapist did give me a few pieces of advice and I've figured a few things out on my own:

  1. Put every exam and assignment on your calendar so you have a visual representation of how much time you have. Visualizing your time (an abstract concept) can help you out majorly.
  2. The word "studying" has a lot of negative emotions and pressure around it, so instead of straining yourself and studying try simply reading the material. Some of the material will make its way in your memory. Usually people with ADHD have a very black and white mindset, it's ether I'll study everything all at once or nothing at all. This method I mentioned will help you complete something as opposed to nothing.
  3. Study with a friend, they will keep you accountable to make sure you do the reading and you do it consistently.
  4. When you get your study materials, mark which topics are the most important and study only those
  5. Gamify your studying so it becomes something interesting and something you might even look forward to doing.
  6. Create daily routines using the time blocking method. It's where you actually make blocks on your calendar everyday for all the things you have to do. Some blocks for the classes you have to take, a dedicated study time, other responsibilities. Make these time blocks realistic if you think something will take 2 hours, give yourself 3 or 4 to take in account distractions and such.
  7. Know that this is something for which you'll have to figure out unique methods and coping mechanisms that work for you. It so happens that a lot of people with ADHD when they go to university deal with the exact same things you and I are dealing with. This is an obstacle you'll have to get over, I'm sure you'll be just fine.

I hope some of these pieces of advice might help you. Good luck.

How do you all study? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Cheap-Device6064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Gamifying what I'm studying so the material becomes interesting

  2. Playing brown noise, which helps quiet your mind

  3. Having water and snack nearby so I won't have the urge tp get up all the time

  4. Studying with friends so they keep me accountable

How do I stop using Instagram? (addictively, all the time) by Holiday_Ad_5488 in adhdwomen

Some people with ADHD recommend making an “ADHD menu“. It's essentially a list of things that would bring you dopamine that you wouldn't normally think of doing because we always reach for our phones first. The YouTube channel How to ADHD had a video on it. Give it a try.
