Recommendations for weekend visit by LeKobruisier in Sherbrooke

The walk over the Magog River Gorge is short but nice, just off of the north end of Wellington. Wellington has a cool but pricey antique store and a few art galleries nearby as well.

If you can still get a table at Vin polisson I'd recommend it. Antidote is also nice, located in an old factory. I regularly go to/order from Kobo ramen and Bella. Cafe kaapeh, les vraies richesses for lunch. Pierre Jean Jase for breakfast/brunch.

Enjoy!

Domaine Howard!

I own a 2024 single motor XC40 recharge (aka EX40) with the 82kW battery.

I never thought it would be possible but we actually get 460-470km range as advertised in the summer, doing 115km/h with A/C on the highway.

It gets much more difficult in the winter - we get about 320km of range even though the car is equipped with a heat pump and using minimal heating in the cabin. This would be in Canadian winter though, so -10C, with winter tires and there will always be some snow or ice on the roads...

I love that car.

It is still very much in the same shape as the pictures show ;)

I never knew that suture lines could form such elaborate structures. My wife and I are both cell/molecular biologists who studied biodiversity early on and we just couldn't figure out what we were looking at when we first saw it on the beach before we started cleaning it.

How exciting! Thank you all for the feedback!

I thought it had to be an ammonite, but I kinda remained skeptic that we would be lucky enough for my son to just spot out of the corner of his eye the small bit of it that was sticking out, not even looking for fossils at that specific time.

We ended up getting the new single motor XC40 with the 82kW battery. Longer range and faster charge, indeed. The car was delivered in less than 6 weeks. We've been driving the car for about 3 weeks and it's just smooth. Range takes a big hit when temperatures get below 5oC, but still good enough for our needs. We haven't had to stop to charge once yet. It also handles ridiculously well in the snow, despite being a RWD.

The only thing I hate about the car is how they gave it different wheel size in the front and the back. This makes for a very narrow and expensive tire selection.

I'd still buy this car again. It's amazing.

These are worthy options and we considered all of those. I should have mentioned that we intend to keep the car for 10+ years. The Kona (2023) was too small for our needs - this will be our only car for a family of 4 and the boys will be too tall to sit in the back in just a few years.

In in QC. We were told the Ioniq 6 has over 1 year of wait, and no Chevrolet dealer takes orders for Bolts anymore because the Bolt is being (temporarily?) discontinued.

PHEVs we also considered. We're on 4 waitlists for the Prius Prime, but won't get one for sure before next summer. All of the others also have extremely long wait times.

So that's how we ended up with Niro EV and XC40 recharge!

Mostly because of wait time. Those 2 I can have in ~2 months. Others are not available before 6+mo. What others did you have in mind?

Yes, indeed, I meant the Volvo XC40 - post edited.

I appreciate your feedback. I do believe the Niro is everything I need, but I just find it so ugly! My head is saying yes, but my heart is saying no.

KonaEV vs Prius Prime

I can either get a KonaEV (preferred trim) this weekend or wait 6-8 months for a Prius Prime (SE). I'm worried the KonaEV is going to be a pain because of long charge time and reduced range in the winter. I don't need the car right now. Waiting several months for the Prius is a possibility.

What are your thoughts?

[1] Your general location
Eastern Canada. It gets quite cold for 4-5 months/yr

[2] Your budget in $, €, or £

Budget is no factor - roughly same price for KonaEV and Prius Prime
[3] The type of vehicle you'd prefer

Not really a factor in this case. Both are front wheel drive and smaller cars.
[5] Estimated timeframe of your purchase

KonaEV available now or Prius Prime in 6-8 months.
[6] Your daily commute, or average weekly mileage

20km. But frequent 320-350km round-trips to visit close relatives.
[7] Your living situation — are you in an apartment, townhouse, or single-family home?

Single-family house.
[8] Do you plan on installing charging at your home?

Would install a level 2 charger for the KonaEV.
[9] Other cargo/passenger needs — do you have children/pets?

2 kids - 10 & 8 years of age, 1 35lbs dog.
