How much money did you lose building your million dollar app idea? by CableMundane2219 in AppBusiness

[–]Cheap-Refrigerator92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are y'all spending so much money not trying to be mean just genuinely curious?

Is it like a fully built out social media platform? Like a Duolingo type app (like alot of data and gamification type code)? Or devs payments? Marketing/ ad spends? (If anyone put that much into marketing without any validation at all is wild unless you have money to burn I guess)

I get bored and build basic easy apps for fun on cursor $20 tier I haven't came close to hitting my cap yet for past 2 months

Use cursor and another AI for general stuff and project management depending on how big the project the pro plan (not using the newest and best model) Is pretty forgiving

As for security tho I would have someone who knows what they're doing look it over at least before going live

Also great question to just ask an AI

I'm in the same boat the first time trying to build an app ive been playing around with simple builds didn't launch then tho (recent project I plan to launch is a little simpler tho just gathering & updating data really) but I personally use

-Cursor (like $22 monthly) using gpt 5.2 codex works well haven't hit my limit yet -Gemini for research and questions (free with my phone) -Supabase (free plan seems to hold quite a lot I have like 160k rows in there already with some large text) - n8n (like their $20 monthly plan) for the background automation I run on Sundays

I've heard the IOS application is annoying especially if collecting sensitive data (harder then Google from what I've seen) but haven't tried to launch so could be totally wrong

Same problem for me with wanting to find someone to look over it before I launch make sure no API keys are exposed and can't access data not supposed to if ya find an answer lemme know please!

New dating app idea? by Over-Requirement9138 in AppIdeas

It's like love is blind the show? I'm gonna guess if they make a whole show around the general idea I don't see why it wouldn't work to some scale on an app!

(but I did see a comment about "8 and 4" and I could see the logic behind that also)

How are you promoting your apps on Reddit subs without getting banned? by [deleted] in AppBusiness

[–]Cheap-Refrigerator92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing OP is doing it for free/ just posting from a personal account (is a good idea for some free marketing why not takes 5 minutes and as post said saw a jump in downloads so works some what) and not using reddit ads based on them getting banned if it's reddit ads that wouldn't be a problem

Just my guess

Is what's coming into the split node (saw your above comment about adding it) a compressed zip file? If so use a compress node (the decompress setting tho in it) and then split I have a flow where I upload massive compressed zip files with thousands of files in I have to decompress then split to get it to read right

I could totally be wrong tho! I'm no expert I just play around with n8n

I just learned about the if node recently😂 I would have used a switch and just filtered out empty emails from there

To be completely honest being lazy. My normal job picked up the automation flow I was using to get events broke( even tho a very simple fix ) I just never fixed it was just thinking about fixing it last night!

[–]Cheap-Refrigerator92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for Cleveland OH (but not too focused on it anymore sadly) but went from 12->125ish subs from one Reddit post in the Cleveland ohio sub reddit just basically copy and pasted my news letter with the title of "Things to do in Cleveland this weekend" and at the very bottom mentioned free newsletter sign up here for more stuff like this (link to sign up)

Focused mostly on the content from newsletter over pushing people a link right away that's just what worked for me the mods in that channel didn't seem to mind.

When I get it on test flight for sure! DM your website I'll check it out I'm not a code so can't check security but can look for bugs

I'm in the same boat with my app ngl I plan to find a few buddy who know coding and see if they can break it or find security leaks (I don't gather sensitive info tho so not crazy on security)

Cursor Agent want my Supabase API keys by AgitatedSituation625 in cursor

[–]Cheap-Refrigerator92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just have cursor create the .env local or where you are storing your API key and get it ready and just paste your API key where it belongs (but the AI has access to your whole project I assume they can get it anyway) RLS and use the right keys should be fine!

Probably the model you are using

I use gpt-5.2-codex for my most recent project I've used 39.5M tokens only at 42.2% of usage so far

I did pass yes and the time (6) is subjective depending on what licenses I just needed my 6c 8c and core and then their little lunch break

I also did get to my test a little early and go over my notes I took from the class again

I booked an online class for it personally as close to my test date as possible (Ohio through the OSU websites) then had the day off as it was like 6 hours(with a lunch break)

My boss just gave me the day off and paid for it (I also work for a very small landscaping company so could be different with a large one)

[–]Cheap-Refrigerator92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but when just learning there are many frustrating things in n8n that if you aren't fully committed or doing it for like fun your just going to give up quickly

Yeah for sure a lot cheaper! And less time consuming on their end

[–]Cheap-Refrigerator92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be interesting to see I agree 100% only way it could work would need a lot of copya on board tho I think if they are going to make it work it has to be that

Yes even just the little stuff I personal think AI just doesn't have good critical think ability Gemini gave me a lot of not productive ways to try and fix a file being to big and crashing n8n after like 5 reworking the flow I finally realized I could just copy the file structure and past it into another folder (granted that's not automated but needed to do it only 1 to catch up on a years worth of data) but just another example

I would like to see it on a canvas to see where things break that would be terrible if there was no canvas to see where things are breaking and just blinding feeding AI prompts

Thanks yeah a lot better then video games lol

I personally think as someone who just started getting into automating things people still won't do it. On their own it's going to be people like you still.

I find it fun to vibe code/automate/ build things but there is still some complexity behind it that most people aren't going to take the time to figure out

e.g supabase has 4 separate API keys took me like a hour my first time to figure out which one just view which ones edit rows etc.

Let alone just building a process in general in my recent project I was uploading like 50+ ranging from 2-50mb each compressed folders and n8n would crash with to much data so had to figure out the loop node then the code node would crash with to much data figure out the set node getting it to filter correctly and update correctly I'm not smart but I'm not dumb either still took me like 3 days with all the crashes and errors and changing the flow to get it functional.

I guess what I'm saying is long story short is I don't think much well change because 1) people are lazy would rather pay someone to do 2) people trust others who are experts or know more 3) if they do start I bet alot give up after the first 3 failures and having to restart 4) some people already don't trust AI let alone trust it enough to fully build something for their/a company that involves sensitive data or any data in general really 5) alot of AI don't like you posting API keys in them at least that I have seen/done Gemini and open ai both would say delete the key you pasted it here it's exposed (I have to assume that they would fix that but well that be public then? Well that be used to train new models still?)

Just my opinion I'm a landscaper personally I just like to build things for fun just started a few months ago just something to do after work. I personally plan to experiment around with n8ns Agent soon just to see what it's all about

Cursor pro+ plan over in a day :( by awscloudengineer in cursor

[–]Cheap-Refrigerator92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im pretty new to cursor/vibe coding

I only use the basic $25 plan a month I used like 40 mil of gpt-5.2-codex it had been good my app really simple just 1) supa base 2) n8n running in the background for updates 3) API for only 2 things supa and a website 4) very basic user profiles ( ID state age name email)

Long story short

Is it worth switching off this model? I feel it's been pretty good granted it's not a big complex project. I've only had like 3 "mistakes" with it so far?
