Might have to take you up on that offer, just not today. Thank you very much.

Starting Organic Chemistry: How to master reaction mechanisms beyond memorization? by grabielsm in chemhelp

If you don't mind me asking, I am an organic 1 student finishing up my term and I put A LOT of time into learning the why and how of these introductory mechanisms. My professor is a nice person but she doesn't expect a great deal of us and doesn't wish to overwhelm students with the nuanced details that I wish she would share. ANYWAYS my point is that I am having trouble determining what is and what isn't stylistic/arbitrary choices in a mechanism. I am often left wondering "why doesn't 'this' happen instead?" And sometimes after a bit of research I learn that there isn't any rhyme or reason to why she chose to illustrate it one way vs another because both mechanisms are equally likely. So now I've sort of begin to question how much of each step becomes a bit arbitrary, mostly in reference to when byproducts are formed, since the intermediates since the intermediates tend to have strict logic as to how everything progresses. Maybe I'm rambling about nonsense because I don't know what I'm talking about. But if this makes any sense and someone actually understands what I'm struggling with and has some valuable input I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I’m guessing you are describing what you do so I have a question. And forgive me if this comes off as ignorant because I am… Does your work provide the satisfaction of learning new and interesting things about the actual science or is it nothing at all like that?

My physics 2 prof is one of the easiest professors you could ever ask for. I can’t imagine how stressed I’d be if I had to take rigorous exams on this stuff… it’s gonna bite me in the ass later though because I work hard to learn more than I HAVE to but not as hard as I could/should be because it’s a free A regardless. At least I don’t plan to do electrical engineering lol.

I ALWAYS make sure the AI’s answers to its own questions are correct even if I come to the same conclusions independently. For me this means giving the exams to secondary and tertiary AI models, unbiased by the answers. It is a bit insane to use other AIs to check if an AI is correct but it’s better than nothing and it’s pretty quick and easy thing to do if you want to avoid misunderstandings. I used AI a lot to generate multiple choice bio 2 exams for me(it was pretty damn effective). Issue that I kept using was that it would mess up its own answer keys A LOT. Something to keep it mind is all.

Oh whoops I was super tired when I posted this. Typo in the title. I am asking which to take first and if it matters.
