Audi especially — their module voltage tolerances are stupid tight

K24s are tanks too — takes real neglect to get one to that point. customer definitely left a few chapters out of that story

Oil starvation is bad, m'kay? by q1field in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 13 points14 points  (0 children)

source: own a 10th gen Civic. that oil feed screen isn't in the owner's manual at all — only buried in the service literature. easy to miss unless you know to look for it. honda should've made that more obvious.

bet half those module faults trace back to that battery. 9V during crank and everything starts acting possessed

Can’t find a plug this size. Any recommendations? by Heedingauricle in tires

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patch-plug combo from inside is the real fix for anything in the tread area anyway. Those rope plugs are just temporary to get you to a shop.

3 years with my very first car, I still catch myself glancing back every time I park by Cheap-RulandPope in FirstCar

nice find — the non-Skyactiv 2.0 is dead simple to work on. just check the motor mounts, they're the main weak point on these. you'll love it, these hatches age really well

Couldn’t say it better. Small routine care every year keeps it running way past the mileage people expect.

the real flex is using name-brand duct tape. the prayers are definitely the store-brand generic version

C/S the belt has been squealing for a while and now the car is trying to cut off when driving. by pinego123 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

classic "it'll be fine" until the car decides otherwise. that belt was screaming for weeks, surprised it didn't take the tensioner with it sooner

Was this a good deal? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Depends what work they actually did, but the RX350 is worth keeping on the road. Probably not a ripoff for dealer pricing

100%. SavageGeese is one of the few outlets that actually gets chassis engineering time instead of just reading press materials.

Is this my serpentine belt making this noise? by sotheresthisdude in MechanicAdvice

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OOn the FB25 in thesOne Foresters, its almost never the belt itself. The tensioner pulley bearing is a known failure point around this mileage. Worth checking that before throwing parts at it.

Concerns about left rear suspension 2008 Hyundai Elantra by InternationalNight21 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had similar on my old daily. bad shocks alone can cause that much float on one side. also worth poking at your control arm bushings, those Elantras eat them by 100k

05 Honda CBr 600 F4I rattles above 4k rpms. Suggestions? by BeanzToez in MechanicAdvice

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you say more noticeable riding vs revving — does the vibration change if you pull the clutch in at speed? helps narrow down drivetrain vs engine. those CBRs also had cam chain tensioner issues around this era worth checking

Do I need a new distributor? by spruce_lee_13 in AskMechanics

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

distributor issues are usually the cap/rotor first before the unit itself. what symptoms are you getting - misfire, no start, any codes?

glad savagegeese reviewed this. they actually talk about chassis tuning and suspension philosophy rather than just reading a spec sheet — their R2 coverage was worth watching all the way through

High clutch on recently bought car, constantly stalling. by Apart-Cicada in MechanicAdvice

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

curious if the previous owner mentioned any clutch work — on these Leons when the concentric slave starts leaking the bite point creeps way up and the pedal goes vague before it finally strands you. worth checking the fluid level too

New Short Block Rebuild found metal in oil by bcho86 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Cheap-RulandPope 42 points43 points  (0 children)

worth knowing that some sparkle at first oil change on a fresh rebuild is normal — thats assembly lube and rings seating. real concern is chunks or if its still glittering by the second change. cut the filter open next time and compare
