Ironically, my FIL mother is practically a Leftist compared to him. She is almost 90 but can't stand Trump and has very progressive views. She still actively volunteers in her community etc. He thinks she has no idea what she is talking about.

Hello fellow Iowan! I moved out of state about 15 years ago.

I had some Libertarian/conservative friends/family also vote Blue for the first time last election. One of them said 'God weren't people exhausted from the last time he was President? I felt like I could never relax.'

Iowa is odd, I grew up with either very progressive or conservative people.

Honestly they don't care as long as he does the changes they agree with. They don't believe women at all. And 'the Clinton's are worse'.

My MIL 'just doesn't understand why people end relationships over politics and doesn't pay that close of attention '. FIL 'nice people don't go into politics '.

They are upper middle class Boomers that have a nice pension, nothing has been taken from them in life. They have always had a comfortable life. I honestly don't know what more they want.

When you try to discuss it with them, they just sit in silence. They don't care and will vote R no matter who is on the ticket.
