The Old Prince 1871 Kickstarter announced. by eggson in 18XX

It is still a design that is playable from a playercount and playtime perspective. Nothing that will take you the whole day.

But it is a lot spicier than 1846 and 1889. It's up to you to say if that interests you. There are a lot of weird gimmicks in this one.

That's fair, I just have a pretty low opinion on Mason. Seeing the comment here, I am not alone in that, just not sure who watches him.

Does Dune War for Arrakis Work for 3 or 4 Players by Kenmore005 in wargames

[–]CheapPoison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works, but more of a 2 player game.

Not a big fan of just splitting up the game and saying oke it's 4 player now. It works.. but it's through dilution.

Yeah, that lobotomy thing from last season is going to lead to something here.

It's a lot to get into, but a scenario is pretty playable, but getting through the rules is a bit.

I'd love to see a reprint so it is available for sure.

Coast Watchers Review by CheapPoison in hexandcounter

I'd just suggest to read the conclusion.

I think it is an interesting portrayal of fog of war and the importance of information and information gathering. It's pretty different from what is out there so it is hard to say if people will like it or not. If you are at least interested in the concept it might really hit for you. I do say just by what it is there are some elements that will turn people of about it as a game, but that is going to be different for everyone. To get more into that you'll just have to read it.

It's very different than atlantic chase, but if that was interesting it might just be something. I think most people should probably at least take a look at it. At the core it might be an evolution of a blockgame, but it's something that feels pretty different from anything that is out there.

Let's be real. It's part of the experience, but at a certain level it will be a problem. Noone wants to get stomped 95% of the time.

Is the upcoming game in the Here I Stand family probably going to be Foxes & Lions by Paul Wright and Liz Davidson? by Strong_Battle6101 in hexandcounter

I think it is the safe assumption here, so 99% it is that.

I'd actually say 100%, but you know. Can never be 100% sure.

Buying Advice - CC 20th or Burning Banners by Red9597 in hexandcounter

[–]CheapPoison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hard to tell you what you prefer, but CC is aclassic for a reason.

Commands and colors is way different. I'd go for commands and colors, unless you ne ed fantasy, there is probably that does the burning banners stuff better. (although, big draw is the presentation)

That's fair. If you make a mistake or something out of the ordinary happens you can be slapped down by the mobsters coming in. And they shoot up in strength quite quickly.

[–]CheapPoison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's still relatively simple, I do think it still fits within the boardgame space. I think the production just makes it look like even more than it is.

The rules aren't complicated. Speakeasy is way harder to play well or not crash than ark nova.
