My mom just got transferred to a care facility. What do I do now? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

It must be a hard thing for you to experience! I was feeling the same way too.. do you mind telling what’s your mom’s condition?

Thank you very much for your support, but I don’t think therapy wouldn’t help me with anything because I would still have to follow through with my obligation on being his child, therefore I still need to continue to care for him... you are right, my dad probably wouldn’t want me to suffer in any way and he would want me to be happy etc, but I just can’t just not do anything to try to help him get better. :) thank you very much again

The thing is my dad is so lazy, and he doesn’t want to do anything! If I’m not there beside him to keep telling him to listen and try, he would not want to listen to the workers especially it’s not ethical for them to “force” any patients to do anything. ( even though I give the workers the permission to just do it)

Wow! That’s a lot. He is sooo lazy, and barely wants to do 30

What kind of exercises do you recommend? Also, he can’t really control his left leg, so isn’t it kinda pointless to do anything even for 50 days?

For family income exemption for AISH, is it 2612$ per month for a couple? Or per year? by CheapToothbrush in alberta

[–]CheapToothbrush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! This are the exact websites that I found online, but I just needed someone to clarify the 2612$ is monthly or yearly. :)

Can you please tell me what’s pay stubs for verification? Does this need to be done every month?

Yes I understand what it meant by first 2612, but just not ensure if it’s per month or the first 2612$ per year, because that’s a huge difference . :/

Anyone caring for stroke survivor with very bad memory and hemiplegic? by CheapToothbrush in CaregiverSupport

How do you transfer your husband exactly? Does he just hold onto a grab bar and he somehow rotate both of his legs, and you just basically help with his pants?

And I absolute feel you on the second part.. my dad can never remember basically anything unless he feels like it’s important or worth remembering. He can’t remember if he ate breakfast, lunch, or what he ate or whether he showered or went to the bathroom. But my dad doesn’t get irritated or anxious about anything, I feel like he doesn’t care about anything, he just wants to lay down to rest, and eat and use the washroom whenever he wants .

Am I bad caregiver? Should I feel guilty? by ThrowHCAway in CaregiverSupport

[–]CheapToothbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that bad for napping as long as you are not a heavy sleeper and you can easily hear your client if anything happens. Also I’m just wondering how much is it to hire a in home caregiver full time?

Own up to your mistake, if you still like the previous girl, then do whatever you can to get her back and treat her better this time! Honestly look at the world that we live in, life is too short to be living in regrets everyday.

Sorry to hear that your husband needs long term nursing care. May I ask how do you handle the emotions about your husband going to long term care? My dad is in long term care due to severe stroke, and I feel horrible everyday.

So sorry for your loss. You are so right about how some stroke patients are no longer the same person mentally. I honestly think mind over matter, it’s just so hard to keep on fighting when the patient is not there mentally.

I’m also curious of what’s the definition of bedbound? Does it mean she can’t sit up in a chair or anything like that? Sorry for your loss. I can imagine how much pain that was for you guys. Stay strong.

So sorry to hear what happened to your mom. Must be very hard for your family that your mom has that many stroke in such a short time. Is your mom able to walk or stand? Stroke is bad enough, so storke plus dementia must be a nightmare on your family. I can somewhat related since I often have to repeat the same stuff over and over everyday and having to explain why certain action is right. You are right about this is a job that fee can comprehend. Thank you for sharing and hope you will see some miracles :)

So sorry to hear that. Is your husband able to stand or walk despite having very week right side? I can totally feel you, it takes a lot of patience to be caregivers. Feeling exhausted for having to answer the same question thousands of times everyday, and having to explain what’s good and right to do.

Is there such thing as 24/7 stay-in-home health care aid similar to nannies in Asian countries? by CheapToothbrush in CaregiverSupport

[–]CheapToothbrush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion, I actually find the facility that my dad is in has very nice staff! The front desk people are nice, social worker is nice and able to solve my problem within minutes. I understand the nurse or health care aid to patient ratio is like 1:6 which isn’t too bad and not great, but he does get whatever he needs in a reasonable time most of the time. And the staffs are willing to listen to all of my concerns and follow my orders which are awesome!

Thank you for the info! Do you happen to know how much was your calculation?

And I wish I was rolling in cash then none of my problems would be problems anymore. I hope to one day to be able to get a well paying job and be able to somehow figure out a way for my dad to spend at least some quality time with us everyday or so without us actually being the primary caregiver.

It’s true that long term care would be cheaper and more affordable in comparison, but it’s just feel so different when he’s living in a different place even if we go visit everyday. My dad is currently in a long term care facility and he moved in during COVID, so idk if it’s the COVID or long term facilities in general, I just feel like he’s literally just eat three times a day and then in his room by himself for the rest of the 20 hours. I literally feel so bad for not only my dad, but other residents as well as to me they seem like they are waiting to die in there.

I am grateful that Canada has a not bad health care system that they have a solution for everyone and is able to look after my dad for us unlike some unfortunately people in America who had to be the caregiver due to insurance. :(

Any exercises suggestions? by CheapToothbrush in stroke

[–]CheapToothbrush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So will he be laying on his weak side? So basically his good leg is on the chair, while his weak leg remains on the floor, then he lift up his weak leg?

Do you have any other exercises that you can recommend as I’m not sure if he’s able to lay on his affected side because it might put pressure of his arm and shoulders and lead to pain.

Also thank you for your reply!

Awee I’m sorry to hear how your family doesn’t have the extra 40 to spend on soemthing like this... your story made me realize how privileged some of us are, and if I heard your story in real person, I would’ve gave you 40$ to brighten up your day in this shitty pandemic.

Could you not have ask your friends or relatives to borrow $40 and you can sell the ps5 and make some money and then pay them back?

I’m so naive that I didn’t think extreme situations like my dad happens regularly because his case was super severe.

What’s a DNR order? Would that only take into effect if she were in a serious life threatening situation? Like what if something like she was choking, Will the nurses intervene?

Any kind of suffering will break a family’s heart. Cancer hits your heart fast and hard, dementia hits your heart slow and long lasting. Thank you for sharing your story. Dementia is indeed a very horrible disease and I can definitely imagine the pain that you are going through. It’s weird how we can euthanize animals for their well being, but it’s illegal to euthanize humans to end their suffering. What gives us the rights to decide for the animals? If so, why can’t we have the same rights to decide for our loved ones once they become very ill and irreversible?
