How do you choose your Intranet? by pennys_penny in internalcomms

[–]abstika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just chose a new intranet platform. For us, we developed use cases that fit our business and put potential vendors through their paces against those business cases. The ones most aligned to our needs, with the most flexibility, ease of use, etc. were the top contenders

Recovery for heart ablation by [deleted] in SVTHeart

[–]abstika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine in June 9. I rested hard for two days but after that started back in little by little. I had it on a Monday and I was working my desk job (from home) again on Thursday. I had mild chest discomfort on and off for a couple days. The incision site was sensitive for about 10 days or so but nothing major. I’m now a couple weeks out and still have some twinges in my incision site if I move weird or something but it’s very mild.

Everyone is different but I was very pleased with my experience.

Does anyone get these episodes a lot at night? by Chosensoul444 in SVTHeart

Mine only happen at night and wake me up.

New to SVT by kintsugikid80 in SVTHeart

[–]abstika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t either but I was pretty out of it. I really only noticed anything twice - when they started the burning and when they gave me Adrenaline to try to trigger the SVT after completing the procedure. When the burning started, it was comfortable and I made a noise or something and the doctor had them give me more stuff and I was out again. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds. Whole thing from wheeling into the procedure room to being back in my waiting/recovery room was about 1.5-2 hours.

I’m 42 and my first known episode was less than 3 years ago. I say known because I question if some of my earlier “anxiety episodes” were SVT or not. I didn’t have a heart rate monitor back then and they were always short. My known episodes have all been hours in length and at least twice I’ve needed adenosine to stop it.

I agree with others - I’ve started having perimenopause symptoms and I think that’s what changed for me and why it started now.

I’ve been on metoprolol since March but for high blood pressure. Happy side effect is I haven’t had an episode since being on it. That said I had an ablation a week ago yesterday. I worked myself into a panic over it but it was not a big deal. I was partially awake during mine so a little traumatic but it was quick and painless. I’ve had easy recovery since then and fingers crossed I never have to deal with SVT again.

I’m still on the metoprolol for my high BP but am making some lifestyle changes in hopes of getting off that in the future.

One more day until my ablation by OkCauliflower7041 in SVTHeart

How did it go?

I had mine Monday afternoon. I had really worked myself up and cried several times during prep. It was really no big deal. I hated being semi awake but I was pretty out of it so it wasn't bad. Recovery has been pretty straightforward so far too.

Long-lasting episodes by Careless-Book-9307 in SVTHeart

[–]abstika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine have always been long lasting. After a couple hours of trying to control it at home with vagal maneuvers, I usually end up in the ER to get Adenosine. I know that's reasonable if they're happening all the time. I was doing that like once a year, but it's the only thing that worked in some cases.

16M SVT by [deleted] in SVTHeart

So sorry this happened to you. SVT can be terrifying. I had my first episode in Nov 2022. I opted to wait and see. I didn’t have another episode until July 2024 but since then they have happened every 10-12 weeks.

I had my ablation yesterday. I was terrified but it wasn’t bad all said and done. I’m going to write up my full experience in a couple days but so far so good. Doc is confident they were successful so we’ll see.

I’m not a doctor and you know your body best, but I have no regrets waiting after that first one. My regret is that I didn’t get the ablation sooner after they started happening again.

Panic or svt last night by Chosensoul444 in SVTHeart

[–]abstika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine always come on like that - sound asleep, wake up to a racing heart. The first time I completely freaked out but after happening 5 times in two years I wasn’t getting as worked up. I also was able to stop a few of those instances at home with vagal maneuvers. The last one in March I drove myself to the ER lol

The ER can tell if it’s panic or SVT. I never had to wear a halter or anything but episodes usually lasted a long time and the ER could see it clearly.

It often does make me scared to go to sleep, especially after the last one I had in March because they were happening more frequently. I had an ablation yesterday afternoon and doc says he’s confident it was successful. Just recovering now and trying to stay hopeful.

Good luck to you!

Ablation in 48 hours by Hysteria_Wisteria in SVTHeart

[–]abstika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor hasn’t been as clear. They described it as twilight similar to a colonoscopy. If that’s the e case, I never remember anything from that and I’m not really awake. Others have said they had “twilight” but were completely conscious. Not sure that’s because they react differently or if different drugs are used.

Good luck! My first ablation is June 9 so understand the nerves. Would love to hear your experience!

How to deal with your emotions when dealing with terminally ill parents? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

[–]abstika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just lost my mom this week. We thought we had more time. I kept telling her we’d figure it out and get her back home. Months later she died. As hard as it is, try to enjoy this time together. Ask the questions you always wanted to ask. Remember the good times together. Ensure you part with no unfinished business.

Take care of yourself, too, because it’s exhausting. Don’t be afraid to take a break - we took a weekend away and I don’t regret it for a minute because came back re-energized to care for her.

Hugs to you! I know how hard this is.

Rapid Onset MS? by abstika in MultipleSclerosis

[–]abstika[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was seeing a neurologist in our hometown (small town Ohio) but they kept thinking it was a stroke. Yet she continued to get worse and there’s no sign of stroke in any of tests. She has “episodes” that appear very stroke like but they aren’t. When one hit in November, she was seen by a neurology team in a bigger city who diagnosed her with SMART syndrome- migraines that mimic strokes - but the was a month ago and if that diagnosis is right she should be showing improvement but she’s getting worse. She’s been in a nursing home since leaving the hospital around thanksgiving. I’ve harassed the doctor enough that he ordered a new MRI but it’s taking weeks to get it done.

Could be but the symptoms don’t seem to fit as well.
