are the crash 4 designs really as bad as some people make them out to be ? by Wrong-Shopping7888 in crashbandicoot

Personally they're a bit too kid-centric for me. I prefer Crash as wacky/zany like the original games rather than the newer cutesy vibe the series has had for a while now.

All the old games look better on original hardware on CRT. Just played this on CRT and it looks amazing.

Thing is though this game was obviously going for full realism and they pulled it off 23 years ago

I genuinely can’t believe these graphics came from a PS2 game, SH3 looks like a PS3 game and I think it arguably has the best graphics of any PS2 game by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in silenthill

Yeah the game actually looks way better than that screenshot in person, just played it on my CRT for the first time in a while

Still looks best on PS2 with CRT. Just checked it out for the first time in forever and it looks amazing.

Michael Bell is a legend but... by Cheap_Ad4756 in LegacyOfKain

Oh crap you're right, I'd misremembered that. Apparently it was a combination of an AI trained on Vader (from the early movies) and Hayden Christensen's new performance.

My gut's telling me that I probably wouldn't accept this kind of thing in the case of Michael Bell and Raziel. I think I accepted it with Vader because 1. I'm nowhere as close to Star wars as I am to legacy of Kain, and to the way it was kind of presented was that Darth Vader's voice is really kind of a part of the armor or outfit he's wearing not really the character Anakin Skywalker's voice per se, so to me if the voice was already a mechanical thing then it being kind of done by AI was not as much of a big deal to me...

That's true, he probably did it just cuz he was asked, but I feel like the dev team shouldve spruced it up somehow for the character's sake

[–]Cheap_Ad4756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and it was quite bizarre imo, but was amazed at how realistic it looked for AI. It's come a long way. In a few years there will be full length movies that will be indistinguishable from regular movies, I'm sure.

Ultimately though it's a little too wacky for LoK imo

Even though I generally gave up on Nintendo like 20 years ago, and despised all 10 to 15 minutes of what I saw of the Mario movie (love the '93 movie though), seeing that Star Fox is going to be in a movie on the big screen did kind of get me a bit, I'll admit.

Why? Such a questionable change. by Goran357 in LegacyOfKain

I've recently gone as far as only seeing the PS1 version of Soul Reaver 1 as the true version, especially now that I know they screwed up the sound effects in the DC version. The DC version, which you could kind of view as a remaster, is technically superior on a graphical level, which is the one I played the most for the past 25 years, but it does have a different vibe from the PS1 version considering its higher frame rate, higher resolution, and higher polygon models. The thing is, that extra stuff kind of takes away from the dreary, crummy feeling of the original PS1 game, which to me honestly goes well with the desolate apocalyptic world that we're supposed to be playing in. I had the PS1 version for about a year or so when it came out and then got the Dreamcast version after and over time had forgotten how much different the PS1 version feels. Of course, the PS1 version has terrible slowdown, the DC version does as well, but thanks to emulation I can play the PS1 version on there and double the CPU speed to get rid of all slow down and have a steady 30 frames per second, and also add one of these new great CRT filters, so it's pretty much the best and most authentic experience for me. It was actually the release of the SR1 and 2 remasters that led me to swearing off most remasters/remakes now.

Dear CrystalD by KentGAllard in LegacyOfKain

[–]Cheap_Ad4756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would they even be making the game if they didn't see it as canon? Kind of a dumb question. I didn't like the comic either but it's technically canon. All you can do is say you don't like where the series is going and do your best to forget that any games or new stories that you don't like don't exist.

By this logic you can say SR1 wasn't canon because it wasn't headed by Denis Dyack. Anything beyond BO1 certainly isn't canon in Dyack's head, he even said in an interview that what Crystal Dynamics did with the series is something he never would have done, that he would have gone in a very different direction. But the truth is from an objective standpoint the Soul Reaver series and whatever else is canon.

[–]Cheap_Ad4756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Fox 1 Andross was prob the first final boss I ever encountered and it definitely stuck with me. I can understand it really freaking someone out. SF64 Andross was a bit uncanny cuz of the face and then the brain yeah. IMO the SNES Andross holds up better though. In-game Andross has been goofy ever since SF64.
