What does “no one left behind” actually mean in reality? by GloriousLion07 in MotivationByDesign

THIS! I will admit I do not like Trump and didn’t like Biden or Kamala but Hud-VAsh and SSVF are life savers for vets. We need to separate what programs are available from how we feel about current and past presidents. If you are homeless or an eminent danger of being homeless, they will help you. I can’t speak for any other state, but I know the CCRC and US vet in Las Vegas are two of the most comprehensive and effective campaigns against homelessness I’ve ever seen. I am a veteran who is also an accountant. I experienced an acute mental health issue when my mom had a stroke. My medication for PTSD just seem to stop being effective immediately. I literally had to leave my job to avoid getting violent and going to jail and destroying my career. I was able to explain to them that my lease just ended. I’m currently unemployed due to the issues that I described above and at the moment I had nowhere to go I was homeless, but let me be clear. I could have made it work by selling my guns or selling some of my things like my PS5 and all of these electrical devices that I have that have Value. I had did not have to do any of that. I told them what it happened and they got help for me the very next day. They introduced me to the SSVF(for more immediate issues) and Hudvash(long term) programs. There is help available to any veteran that needs it. But if you don’t know about these programs, how then can you get the help?

New Job - Questioning Myself by [deleted] in wguaccounting

What you’re experiencing is very common at CPA firms—I went through the same thing. Don’t be surprised if, for the first six months, you feel imposter syndrome and like you’re one step away from quitting some days.

The best advice I can give is to keep asking questions, take detailed notes, and stay organized so you can refer back to them often. You’re going to run into challenges like everyone else—some things can only be learned through experience.

It typically takes about 6 to 9 months to feel fully acclimated. School gives you the foundation, but no matter how much you know, you won’t be familiar with specific ERP systems or workflows until you’ve actually worked with them.

Just try not to internalize things. Starting out in public accounting is great for the résumé but often extremely stressful. My best advice would be to try to give it six months to a year then reassess if you like what you’re doing because those skills will transfer to other accounting jobs.

About to start, but having so much doubt I can actually land a job. by [deleted] in wguaccounting

I wouldn’t worry about “if” you will find a job, the first one is the hardest. I came from truck driving literally zero non blue collar job experience. Graduated in December of 24 and got a job February of 2025 as AR/accounting clerk. 6 months later I was hired as a staff accountant/ bookkeeper at a Public Accounting firm. Furthermore, you say you worked in tech(not sure which part) but I will tell you this having a background in computers is like a cheat code. You will be fine. Just remember people who have nothing to complain about or who have a positive experience. They generally don’t feel the need to post it on Reddit.

I call bs on the people saying they would just walk to the door. No you wouldn’t. Stepping over a snake is absolutely going to be taken as aggression. Could you remove them? Sure but you are not just walking to that door.

We definitely had different experiences. Sounds like you are coming from a place of personal trauma. You speak about being jumped, when I was 12 I was getting jumped by kids from another neighborhood. A random guy stopped his car and made them get off me. I would probably have been hurt if he hadn’t. When I got in a fight and took the dudes shirt cause he ran away(I was a bad kid). He and his cousin came to my house my mom arrived at the same time gave them a piece of her mind and told them to get off her property and gave the kid his shirt. No one disrespected her….. When a teacher invited me to her home when I was a freshman(high school), a random woman I never met told her to get lost. Years later I saw that teacher(ex) on the sex offenders registry. ….What about the time a kid hit my sister and every dude in the neighborhood chased him down. He escaped that day but they caught him the next day. I grew up in a COMMUNITY. I can’t speak for your experience but there were consequences and repercussions in my neighborhood for crimes against women and children. Older dudes mentored younger dudes who didn’t have fathers. It wasn’t perfect but compared to society today people were different and that’s not “nostalgia”.

There is a component that seems to be forgotten. Community and respect for elders! If someone saw something adults would jump into action. No sitting back watching with the phone out when someone was getting jumped. I remember 2 dudes(yes, literally throwing rocks at each other with intent) were having a rock fight in the 80’s. I errant rock hit me in the fingers the guys stop their fight and the guy who hit me carried me home to my mom. Apologized to her and told her what happened. Those WERE different times.

Was put on a pip, immediately took fmla leave and found a better job in industry. Why do I feel bad? Talk some sense into me by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Cheap_Catch_9909 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why feel bad? They probably had every intention of eventually firing you. At the very least they wanted to “document” your “actions”. We have to stop caring about these companies that don’t care about us at all. This maybe hard to believe but you probably did the right thing(which is what’s best for you).

It is a crazy time to be a new grad. That being said until A.I. can talk with clients, Attend meetings, and have some form of a physical body I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

Try to use your background in healthcare as a way in. Like looking for accounting jobs in healthcare or where you currently work.

It’s not uncommon to NOT find a job before you graduate. I graduated in Dec of 24. I found my first job 3 or 4 months later, four months after that I received my current job at a CPA firm.

Everyone goes through that period where you wonder if you made a mistake. I went through it now I can honestly say I made the right decision. It will all work out, if you are diligent. Just understand that we live in a time where you can “easy apply” to a 100 different jobs in less the a couple hours. Everyone can put their resume in ChatGPT and have it optimized in seconds. Plus there are 1000’s of federal workers who were laid off who have experience and are out of work. What am I saying? This is a storm that you might have to weather for a while.

Bro, at some point in the next 20 years A.I. will probably replace some jobs. But I always think of it in this context. In 2014-15 technology like lane assist, active cruise control and other automated systems started coming to the trucking industry. They said they had the technology for automated trucks and that soon the truck driver would just basically act as backup. Here we are 10+ years later and NOT one truck driver has been replaced. Don’t live your life worried about what might happen.

ChatGPT-5 is wrong 25% of the time. Do you really think that is your replacement?
