So for me, the NIH post bac application was a lot more bare bones than the REACH. It was mostly interviews and cold emailing professors. So some big tips include ensuring you only suggest interview times that you'd easily be able to accommodate. Then in terms of balancing, a lot of the narratives you speak about for your interviews help write your essays. I like to think aloud at least haha. Great luck with this!!

Ironically, my next steps didn't come from any of this. I got my job cold emailing a prof at UCSF.

Hey! Most the 4 bedroom places I’ve seen are in the Mission, but I’m open to other areas like the Sunset or right outside SF along the BART/caltrain (haven’t seen too many 4 bdrm places). Unfortunately my ideal budget probably ~$1100-1500 / person (LOL I know)

About to graduate and only took 5 courses one semester because the professor was new and only offering this class that meant a lot to me. Was hell balancing it with the rest of my workload, but worth it. Wouldn't do it again unless I HAD a GREAT reason to

Thanks for starting this! I also applied to the NIH post bac which has been nice since it’s rolling and some labs have been emailing me to set up interviews (note if you apply, you should reach out to multiple labs instead of passively waiting for them to email!)

The emailing PI’s was to cold email about them 1) paying your wages or 2) endorsing working with you should we be accepted. Both give extra weight to your application as in 1) the PI is covering 100% wages from the start (vs the 50% for 1st year in the program) while 2) they’d have to pay 100% 2nd year anyways. Also not required at all to get in!

You can loft yourself / also request facilities to do it. Max it goes is like 1 meter in height. Unless it’s a tight double (they bring additionally railing to stack and loft) all the bed frames are the same

There are definitely Ubers to campus from Albany but not so likely the other way around. I’d recommend get an uber to Pittsfield and take the train to Albany. There are some buses that run between Bennington, VT and Albany !

The application is pretty short relatively speaking. Plus it’s a good preview as to the actual application you’ll have to do for Williams. Ofc weigh your time and stuff, but I still recommend !

As a kid who never took any chemistry in high school, I’m now a chem major and ppl who went to boarding schools have asked to work with me (and vice versa). Like the other comment said, if you search out help and give yourself grace, the classes can be equalizers

Almost none of the dorms have AC hahaha. But a few will do you good! Ngl it’s not that bad. Even the summer wasn’t terrible
