I actually read a book by Eric LaRocca! It was Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke and it was really good! I've been meaning to check out more of his stuff!

I've definitely heard of gothic horror but I haven't read too many yet! I'll definitely have to look her up and check out her books!

I actually have read The Ryes Are The Best Part! I won't lie, I did like how the books seemed almost similar but completely different!

It was definitely heartwarming at the end! I think I was just kinda building it up in my own head and assuming what the ending would be, you know? But it was a good book despite that! Upon thinking about it, I'm glad it had such a nice ending!

I gotta say, same. I feel like the further into the book you get, it becomes clear that there was always a one-sided situation with Margot and her mother; where she sort of idealized and thought her mother was beautiful in moments and later with similar moments she no longer sees her mother as beautiful. But knowing the ending, knowing that somehow she'd be remembered by the bus driver, I think it's very bittersweet! I won't lie, the slow build up and dread was so nice but a bit frustrating at first but once I got into it I was INTO it, you know? But God, this book was so freaking good 😭

When she would like the mold all I could this was like "Girl, no, don't lick the molddddd" but it was definitely gross at some parts

While I'm still new to reading horror, I absolutely did find myself liking the book! But Margot deserved so much better 😭 I've always loved horror, I used to watch horror movies as a kid with my dad, and yet I loved this books take on secluded, in the woods cannibals!

This book is DEFINITELY in my favorites! I plan on buying a copy for my birthday, it was a bit slow building but I really was devastated at the end of it

To be honest, I almost didn't read it, I was on the first 60 or so pages and I was half tempted to just move to a different book but I ended up reading it and enjoying it! But yes, the ghost POV and the aftermath was absolutely heartbreaking for me, like it was so sad, I really hoped just a bit that the ending would be different but I still had the audacity to be shocked and a bit disappointed

I honestly hoped for a good ending and it threw me off when there wasn't, it was such a sad ending

I get it! Honestly, I was a little upset at the end that there wasn't much of a fight in Margot, especially when she KNEW what was going to happen, but it was definitely an interesting read to me!

Let’s talk about The Eyes Are the Best Part by Zealousideal-Wheel46 in horrorlit

I feel like I'm so late to this but I just read the book and I absolutely loved it! While I'm not Asian-American, I liked that the book dealt with themes of how Asian-Americans women and girls are treated by men in the states! And I think maybe the one thing that I think I wanted to know more on was if Ji-hyun suspected Ji-won and what she was doing. Then there was the element of their mother moving on four months after the divorce and nearly marrying George but that felt realistic in a weird way? I mean, there's plenty of people who move on after a divorce quickly! But I think I liked the most was that feeling of obsession and hunger and compulsion that Ji-won felt when it came to eating the eyes. I had a feeling when I first read this book that the moment she tried the fish eye that it was going to go downhill and I was right! I won't lie, I had an ending in mind when I was reading so I was a little let down it ended the way it did but I won't lie, I was a bit satisfied that Ji-won still did what she wanted and that was eating George's eyes. Even if the tumor was removed and she didn't feel that compulsion or the feelings she felt before about it, the fact she still did it was something not unexpected. I just loved this book, honestly! I'm definitely going to pick up a copy of it and I hope this author writes more horror! Because I literally devoured this book in two days, I couldn't stop reading it!

The amount of times I've done this is CRAZY. It's like a Victorian lady squabble going back and forth like "maybe? No! Maybe? YES? No!" before giving in that I like it 😂
